Resmed S9 Series Elite and AutoSet Introduced in Europe

And, while it doesn't enhance our therapy, are they GOOD LOOKING!!!

For information on data available

For pictures

It is going to require yet another new version of ResScan - and possibly, its not clear, a new version USB cable or cable reader.

OK first impressions. I received the S9, h5i and Swift FX this morning. Very impressed with the look and quality. Easy to set up. The power block is quite large but it goes down behind the bedside locker and is not a problem. The tubing from the back works fine too as it goes behind the bed and comes up over the end of the headboard. It's very quiet and the new FX is very comfortable. For those interested the S9 Autoset + h5i + Swift FX and the climatic tubing cost £695 ($1077) in the UK. The clinical information available is limited. Having said that, it took just a couple of minutes to work out the required actions needed to get access to the hidden clinical menu. Which may not be hidden in the USA. A bit more info in there. The S9 uses new software 3.1. I have the old S8 software and will see if it can get anything to come up. Having said that the S9 comes with an SD card that probably won't be found by the software. I was advised by Resmed that the S9 is not useable when travelling due to not being compatable with aircraft power supplies. Once I have used it and can give further update, I will. Again, for those interested, the National Health in the UK supply Resmed CPAP machines free to sufferers. They only supply the basic level you require and I like to get the best comfort I can afford so buy my own.

Hi Judy,
Thanks for the video link. I found it very interesting and am looking forward to getting the S9 even more. The heated tube and climate control is very appealling to me as I am suffering with condensaion even with the humidifier turned virtually off.
I particularly like the look of it but my main judgement will be on it's performance and comfort.

Rock, I had the sleep problem for many years without realising it. It came out by chance when I had an allergic reaction to asprin and got talking to the doc. I was truly exhaused constant throat infections and sleeping for a couple of distubed hours each night. I worked 12 hour shifts and was dozing off while eating or talking to people. 5 hours is mamouth and I feel quite refreshed on it. A really good machine may improve that.

Welcome to the forum, Dave. We'll be interested in hearing about your S9 experiences. I'm fascianted by the extra data available via the S9s and was absolutely intrigued by the S9s and very disappointed that I now need a bi-level and don't expect that Resmed will be coming out w/an S9 bi-level anytime in the near future. *sigh*

But the second cord, power brick and hose off the back cooled my ardor for the S9 and the disappointment about a bi-level considerably. The integrated humidifier sounds like it can be a bit of a sticky problem too. But that's just the observation of one current S9 user, the only one to have an S9 that I'm aware of so far.

dsm at cpaptalk.com just recently posted the link to a Resmed 3D (??) video regarding the S9s that I'm just going to watch now - as soon as it loads. I'm on slow speed dialup so I am NOT a fan of online videos but this sounds to be a "must see".

First night on the S9. Very comfortable and very quiet. Woke with a sore throat from the climate control. Used it on the setting it came with, and it was too high. (27C) Dropped it to 20 for the next attempt. Certainly no condensation at all and I never have heating in the bedroom. -3C outside. By entering the clinical menu I was able to get all the info that was available on the S8 plus a little more. Nice to know that I don't suffer from central AI. Readings were a little higher all round but not much.
The new FX mask was well worth getting and made a huge difference.

There is a strange pleasant feeling to not have a very clinical looking machine along side. First impression. I like it and if I can sort the climate control to my liking, it gets 5 stars.

sounds excellent. glad that you're liking it. I'm jealous that i'm using my old clunker of a PR System One ;-) about the data, what are you doing to track it in detail? I know you mentioned software . . .

I think it sounds like a great machine. One thing I learned from a boss of mine is to wait until other folks have tried it and the bugs are worked out. I don't know if ResMed works like that, improving a newly released product due to customer opinions.
I do know I just bought 3 shares (all I could afford) of ResMed stock. LOL.

Hi All,

Latest update on the S9 and kit. Can't Fault the S9 h5i at all. Tremendous bit of kit and when a machine is so important to your health,; worth every penny. I now have ResScan 3.1. The S9 comes with an SD card and it goes into the Photo slot that it is on my computer and the program finds it immediately. Much more information than before with similar display. They have certainly got this right. The Swift FX is very comfortable but has more leakage than my previous mask, which was the latest Swift 2 and I am considering going back to it. A few more nights first Looking at the latest data shows that I am having higher leakage and more AI with the FX. The software now shows snore graphs and identifies the type of apnea including central, if you are unlucky enough to suffer from them. I believe Resmed should offer a reduced capability ResScan that is a read only program. This would stop anyone from inadvertantly adjusting their settings. Being able to see all the data on your computer and seeing the effect of changing your mask over a period of time is a very good reason to buy a certain make of machine. Resmed could increase sales considerable if they were to do this. I cannot see anyone being disappointed if they get the S9.

Dave
Thanks, Dave. Keep reporting. Don't give up and slack off on us now!!! For those of us not so 'puter nerdy, wha'choo mean by "the Photo slot that is on my computer"??? Whazzat??
Dave have you tried switching to a different size nasal pillow. The sizes may differ somehow.
The SD card that fits the S9 is a Scandisk type memory card rather than smartmedia chip. it's one of the most common cards and fits many cameras. Modern computers come with slots for the various cards and this is the most common. I have one on my PC and Laptop. If the Resscan program is running it just opens the data once you put the memory card in a slot.

You may have a point Rock as I was initially measured for medium but find large more comfortable. Perhaps I will try the medium. The FX seems light and flimsy compared to the last Swift. It's very comfortable though.

The most comfortable climate control setting for me is 24C. 22 gave a little condensation at the pillows and 27 gave me a dry sore throat. I suppose everyone is different.
Hi Dave,
where you bought the S9 Autoset + h5i + Swift FX in the UK?
Hi,

You will need to register with a prescription from your sleep clinic or doctor. That will get the VAT off and also a discount for being registered.

The site is:

Hi Dave,
thanks!
S9 continued
I noted from the software that the EPR is only on for the Ramp period and to turn it on fulltime, requires access to the clinical menu. it says that patients should not be given access to turn it on and off. Seems a bit strange to sell a machine that has thier latest technology but not give access to use it. If you buy the S9 you will require a medical person to turn on the EPR. This may apply to the later S8,s that have EPR. Does anyone know the reason for this?
