Resmed S9 Series Elite and AutoSet Introduced in Europe

And, while it doesn't enhance our therapy, are they GOOD LOOKING!!!

For information on data available

For pictures

It is going to require yet another new version of ResScan - and possibly, its not clear, a new version USB cable or cable reader.

you and jnk both are ones for excellent reportage. thank you anyways, no matter how little (or much) time you spent digging into the weeds of the literature yourself.

Thanks, Mike. I look so smart I know. But, truth be told I just borrowed the info and/or followed the link from posts that jnk and rooster over at cpaptalk made. I just beat jnk getting it posted here too.
For me, the most significant feature of the S9 is the availability of a heated humidification hose to prevent rainout. I sleep in a very cool room and am very concerned about problems with rainout (newbie here, just did my sleep study about 8 days ago). Until this unit, the only others I saw with this feature were the F&P 600 series CPAPs, but I think this is the only APAP with the feature.
sorry if this has already been posted, but anyone know if the heated humification hose is standard and included with the S9, or whether it's an optional "luxury" feature that you need to pay extra for?

Also, John, the System One from PR is supposed to deal with the rainout issue through different humidification technology. Has done pretty good in trials that I've done with it.

Another negative - the hose coming off the back of the device. *sigh* I doubt the narrower hose is going to be popular w/the local DME suppliers. Now they'll have to keep two diameter hoses in stock whereas before the diameter of the hose was pretty much standard one size fits all.
The Resmed UK site mentions that it can also be used with standard diameter hoses, so I suspect that the DMEs will all supply the machine with the adapter to use the larger hose. But with the manufacturers coming out with incompatible heated hose systems, the DMEs will face a similar problem managing that inventory.

Hi All,
New boy joined. Having just ordered the S9 Autoset with the h5i and Swift FX for delivery in a couple of days, I thought I would join a forum and share some of my experiences over my 5 years with severe sleep apnea and how the S9 performs for me. I am presently using the Resmed S8 Autoset 11, I replaced it in December with a later model to get the EPR. Resmed kindly did not mention the S9 was being released which puts me well out of pocket. I held on to my old h3i humidifier but have had to stop using it due to excessive condensation. I have the Resmed software and monitor my sleep patterns. It doesn't give a great deal more than taking the clinical info available from the S8. Without the S8 I have around 48 A.I each hour. With it, I achieve 0 to .3 overnight. So the machine is very important to me and I don't think I would be here without it. I am not seriously overweight and am informed that to lower my weight would probably have little effect on my apnea. I sleep on average about 5 hours a night, normally woken by the pressure if it goes above 10. Shortly after starting treatment, I had a severe case of Pericaditus. Problems with the sack around the heart, and still suffer some discomfort of the chest, which I have always thought was somewhat due to the CPAP. Would be interested to know if any one else has sufferred similar.
The apnea cost me my occupation (Commercial Pilot single pilot operation ) I have done considerable research and try to monitor the continuing effects it has upon me. Over the 5 years I have used some 6 different machines and 4 masks full face, nasal, liberty and swift, At the moment I can only sleep with the Swift 2 and am looking forward to the Swift FX. Hopefully I can have lots of nice things to say about the S9 for you, If it falls down in any areas, I will let you know. I can only compare it to other Resmed products and my experiences of sleeping with a machine strapped to my face. If you have any particular questions just ask.
Dave
Welcome to the forum, Dave. We'll be interested in hearing about your S9 experiences. I'm fascianted by the extra data available via the S9s and was absolutely intrigued by the S9s and very disappointed that I now need a bi-level and don't expect that Resmed will be coming out w/an S9 bi-level anytime in the near future. *sigh*

But the second cord, power brick and hose off the back cooled my ardor for the S9 and the disappointment about a bi-level considerably. The integrated humidifier sounds like it can be a bit of a sticky problem too. But that's just the observation of one current S9 user, the only one to have an S9 that I'm aware of so far.

dsm at cpaptalk.com just recently posted the link to a Resmed 3D (??) video regarding the S9s that I'm just going to watch now - as soon as it loads. I'm on slow speed dialup so I am NOT a fan of online videos but this sounds to be a "must see".

Hi Judy,
Thanks for the video link. I found it very interesting and am looking forward to getting the S9 even more. The heated tube and climate control is very appealling to me as I am suffering with condensaion even with the humidifier turned virtually off.
I particularly like the look of it but my main judgement will be on it's performance and comfort.

Rock, I had the sleep problem for many years without realising it. It came out by chance when I had an allergic reaction to asprin and got talking to the doc. I was truly exhaused constant throat infections and sleeping for a couple of distubed hours each night. I worked 12 hour shifts and was dozing off while eating or talking to people. 5 hours is mamouth and I feel quite refreshed on it. A really good machine may improve that.

OK first impressions. I received the S9, h5i and Swift FX this morning. Very impressed with the look and quality. Easy to set up. The power block is quite large but it goes down behind the bedside locker and is not a problem. The tubing from the back works fine too as it goes behind the bed and comes up over the end of the headboard. It's very quiet and the new FX is very comfortable. For those interested the S9 Autoset + h5i + Swift FX and the climatic tubing cost £695 ($1077) in the UK. The clinical information available is limited. Having said that, it took just a couple of minutes to work out the required actions needed to get access to the hidden clinical menu. Which may not be hidden in the USA. A bit more info in there. The S9 uses new software 3.1. I have the old S8 software and will see if it can get anything to come up. Having said that the S9 comes with an SD card that probably won't be found by the software. I was advised by Resmed that the S9 is not useable when travelling due to not being compatable with aircraft power supplies. Once I have used it and can give further update, I will. Again, for those interested, the National Health in the UK supply Resmed CPAP machines free to sufferers. They only supply the basic level you require and I like to get the best comfort I can afford so buy my own.

Dave, I am glad to hear that 5 hours is adequate for you. For most it would not be enough. Personally if I do not get at least 7 hours of sleep I am a bear. Good luck with that s9. Can you post the data from the software. I would like to see if there are any differences.
