All,

A producer for a national TV show is looking for someone with a bizarre sleep disorder to talk about it on TV.  If you fit the bill, respond to this thread: Bizarre Sleep Disorder Anyone? or call the producer directly at 917-332-3144.  Leave a brief description of what happens and a way you can be reached.

Thank you in advance for your help.

One has to wonder what he thinks is "Bizarre" sleep eating, sleep sex, RBD.
my husband has sleep apnea and has no success with cpap or bpap equipment - nights are dreaded.
I think all of the above: sleep eating, sleep sex, sleep talking, sleep walking, etc. is what this producer has in mind.

We are all bizarre in our own little way.

Many people initially have problems with cpap equipment. Have him try nasal pillows and see if that helps. Many people have difficulty wearing a mask and the pillows do a great job. Maybe he needs to have a new sleep study to get his pressure correct.

Hello,
I was intrigued by your request for people with bizarre sleeping disorders. Mine is so bizarre, I didn't tell anyone for a long time fearing that they would think I was crazy. But it was during a heart exam and physical that the Dr. noticed some slight damage to a certain area of my heart. He asked if I had any sleeping disorders so I began telling him what I go through and he informed me that it was indeed a sleep disorder but rare, and can cause heart damage.
It occurs during "rem" sleep. Somehow, I awaken during rem sleep, which is a time that your body is paralyzed for rest, and all I can move is my eyes. I can not speak, move, or make any sounds. It is very disturbing, and breathing is very slow, so you begin to panic. This has been going on for about 6 years, and I finally learned that if I just relax, and try to fall back asleep I will eventually re-awaken and it will be gone. I've had sleep studies done as well, thinking I had sleep apnea. The first study showed no evidence of sleep apnea, so they re-schduled me for a narcolepsy test. They woke me in the morning with this result: You don't have narcolepsy, but you do have sleep apnea! (a month after the first test that said I did not have apnea). I was very confused as to why the conflict in results, and nothing was said about the waking during rem sleep. They have given me several different meds, some work for a short while but eventually they stop working. I can't even nap, because sometimes I awaken just before going in to rem sleep with a panic feeling, heart racing, shortness of breath, etc. probably because I'm afraid to wake during the rem sleep? In any event, my sleep is poor at best. Can you help?

Have you talked to your sleep physician about this?
