I was diagnosed with sleep apnea November of 2008. My titrated pressure setting was determined to be 16 cm h2o. The machine I was supplied with was a Fisher & Paykel HC 233. A real bare bones leaf blower. I had trouble with my mask from the git go. After many bad nights and long studying (1 year and numerous different masks) I determined that I needed an APAP. My Doctor gave me a hard time about it saying I wouldn’t be any better off as 16 cm h2o is still 16 cm h2o no matter what machines I use and the leaks would stay the same. He wrote a prescription to my supplier for an APAP. My equipment supplier set me up with a Rem Star auto M with c flex for 4 nights for a test that he turned into my Doctor. From this test, my sleep Doctor determined that my pressure needed to be set at 4 min and 20 max. My question is, does this make sense to have the range so wide? If this makes sense, then why did I need a sleep study to begin with to get my prescription of 16 cm h2o? Very expensive. I feel I'm not getting much support.

I haven't got a great deal of time with the machine to collect data yet. That said, I bought the software and the viewer for the machine and have looked it over. The averages don't appear to make a bunch of sense but I blame that on not running long enough to mean much. If I just look at last night, I get an AHI of 3.5 and my leak was 42. I haven't been able to find the acceptable leak rate for my mask, I've read that it's in the Owners guide but I have had no luckfinding it as yet. As far as how I feel, I'm sleeping better ever night and feeling like a kid again. I have fudged and bumped up the lower pressure on my machine from a 4 to and 8 and that helped a lot. My 90% pressure is now 10. I'm having a hard time understanding what that has to do with my prescription pressure of 16. I know I spent many a miserable night at 16.

The diagnostic and titration studies were one night snap shots of your sleep. It is possible that as you body adjust to PAP use that your pressure needs may drop as you get used to it. I am glad to hear that you are doing well. It sounds like the adjustments that were made were good ones.
Thanks for the PDF. The 13 months I spent on the Fisher & Paykel Leaf Blower set on a constant 16 was the most miserable 13 Months I've ever spent. I believe that this machine and I are going to get along just fine. I have also bought but not received as yet is a CMS-50E OLED Fingertip Pulse Oximeter. It does miniture sleep studies. You wear it all night and it collects data points on your Oxygen level plus your pulse rate. I got a notice of a failure to deliver from the Post Office today, so will go and pick it up tomorrow. I hope to be able to share that Data with you all soon.
