CPAP pressure increased, and AI and HI went..... UP?

Hi folks,

I recently had my CPAP pressure bumped up by two to 12.

I've been checking my stats, as I do every day, and have found that my HI seems to have gone up since the pressure increase.

My AI was pretty consistently below 1.0, but since the increase, it's usually above 1.0.

I've also noticed that leakage is reported, where I had virtually none before.

But, here's the really weird thing. The other night I had the CPAP on while I was reading. I ended up with it on for about 45 minutes, then checked the stats. It said that I had an HI over 6.

How does this happen? I was awake, so how did I have any HI?

Sounds to me like you are going the wrong way Andy. 12cm may be to high of a pressure for you which can aggrivate the respiratory system. It sounds to me like you are very close to finding the sweet spot pressure. i would guess 9,10, or 11cmH2o.

Your machine does not know the difference between wake and sleep. Holding or pausing your breath while you are awake and wearing your pap would cause the machine to score events. In truth wake breathing is probably more irregular than sleep breathing. While awake we continually switch back and forth from automatic to manual breathing. When we are sleeping it is automatic or auto pilot.
Well, this has me confused. I had understood from a previous discussion that "too much" pressure did not negatively affect results.

I sort-of imagined it like going over a cliff. Once you go over, a little more over doesn't make it any worse!

So I assumed I that once there was sufficient pressure to open the airway, then a little more pressure can't do any harm.

And my other confusion is with the AI. Can one get to where the AI is 0 with CPAP? Does that happen often?

Or am I just OK with .6 - 1.0 AI each day?

I certainly feel better then ever!
