First, my apologies. This information has been posted over and over again and I thought that I copied it and filed it away for safekeeping...but alas, I cannot find it nor did a few site searches cough it up. I am wanting to write to my doctor today to get these reports.

Would someone kindly give me the words I need to use to get the reports from the sleep doctor that you all are always referring to. Here are the keywords I can remember to help you better understand what I am looking for:

about 12 pages
condensed graphs
both sleep study and titration
technicians notes (?)

Can someone help me out so that I can describe these to the doctor in a way that leaves no question about what I am asking for. When I asked his assistant for the reports about a month ago, the doctor said that these reports were hundreds of pages long....I believe that is not what we are looking for but some summary version.

Thanks much
Jan

They go by many names, but: Split night, Complete, All Night Sleep Report. It's best to just ask for all the reports as well as the physicians dictated report. All those will be around 5-20 pages (all labs are different with regards to report length).

The doctor saying that the report is hundreds of pages long is referring to the actual raw data signals from your body that were recorded...a bunch of squiggly lines.

I think it's best to just ask for all the sleep reports and the dictated report from the sleep specialist. That should get you everything you need.

I've had good luck requesting 1] the doctor's dicated results, 2] the full scored data summary report w/condensed graphs (sometimes called the full disclosure report). Asking for the Tech's Notes is kinda nit-picking tho they CAN be interesting. I usually only request them when the sleep lab ticks me off. (Only happened one time) I do have them from two different PSGs tho. The "older" ones from the late 1990s were a LOT more interesting. Now they only bother about every half hour or so.
