We're preparing an article for publication about the importance of CPAP supplies replacement because of deterioration, bacterial colonization, fungal problems, moral degeneracy, etc. Any text, illustrations or quotes you can offer will be appreciated.

Rock,
I can't quote this for you, but I think the allowable schedule (medicare, insurance) for replacement of tubing, masks, mask cushions, and any other supplies would be helpful. I read the schedule in a forum here and until then I didn't know I could replace my mask cushion monthly and the mask every three months.
Good luck with the article, it should be extremely helplful for CPAP users to know the reasons to replace supplies rather than try to use them as long as we can.

In what sense do you mean moral degeneracy? I looked up the definition of moral and see how it could apply, but I'm interested in your thinking.

Thanks for bringing up an important subject and being willing to write an article- hope you put it here first.

I was just fishing with the moral degeneracy line. I figured to flush out the true moral degenerates among us, who would howl in protest. Stay tuned. You'll see!

jnk, I think you deserve the flush out award! You gave us the opposite sides of moral degeneracy.

Okay I will stand up and hold up my hand!!

I celebrated my 2 year anniversary of being a hose head August 31. I don't consider myself a long timer, but then again I am not a newbie as such.

Let's see. I tried many masks before finding the headrest/aura that I have settled on and use every night now. I was probably at the 8 or 9 month mark when I found it. I purchased my first Headrest mask from a cpaptalk forum member. He allowed me to "try" the mask before paying for it. He trusted me and sent it to me to try it and if I liked it, I would turn around and pay him his asking price. I figured I was in a win situation. I received the mask and washed it in warm soapy water. I didn't feel the need to use any other sterilization method other than washing it. Yes, it was a slightly used mask. I have used that same mask now, nightly except for a couple of nights when I had the flu last winter. I seldom wash it. I do check it for any signs of wear and tear. The headgear is way too big, so I use an elastic headband to help stablize the mask. Don't figure I need to replace it till I wear it out.
I am using my original hose, have an extra but haven't felt a need to change it. I check it for wear, when I remember.
When I use my humidifier, I top the water off.

I guess this makes me a slob!!! :)
Y'all are doing great. keep 'em coming!
