HI all,

I picked up my shiny new ResMed AutoSet II today, along with an H4i heated humidifier, and a Mirage Micro nasal mask.

The tech that introduced me to it was very helpful, and took plenty of time to demonstrate the unit, and answer my questions.

This is a "self-adjusting" unit which can also be set to a fixed pressure, which is how mine is currently set up.

I also received a "bonus" in the form of a ResTraxx for my unit, which is a GSM-band cellular data unit. The ResTraxx sends data directly to the DME company, who then forwards it to my doctor. It also has the capability of the techs making remote adjustments to my ResMed AutoSet II, using a web interface.

The unit comes in a carrying case that looks like a laptop bag, with plenty of room for the ResMed AutoSet II, the hose, power cord, manuals, and the mask which came in its own drawstring bag. The only problem is that the bag won't close with the ResTraxx attached, so the antenna sticks out of the bag. That will be inconvenient when travelling, unless there's a way to disconnect the ResTraxx from the unit.

When I got the unit home, I checked the settings and found that the mask setting was incorrect. The ResMed AutoSet II has a menu selection which sets the mask type, so the unit can work most efficiently with the specific mask I'm using. It was an easy fix to set the mask type correctly.

So far I've only used the unit for a few minutes, mostly so my children could get used to seeing me with it.

I was amazed at how quiet the unit is, with vitually no noise coming from it while it's operating. I was expecting to hear some sort of humming, motor-type sound, but the only thing I can hear is some white noise from the air flow out of the mask itself. My wife was happy to hear the unit on, and said that she thought the white noise from the air flow would be calming for her.

I found the sensation with the mask on and the unit operating to be a bit strange at first, but I feel like I can quickly get used to it. I didn't realize that I would sound weird when talking with the unit on, and I found talking to be uncomfortable. But presumably I won't be talking much in my sleep, so I suppose that won't be an issue.

Th mask itself seems pretty comfortable, and I was able to adjust it so that there was very little pressure on my face from the mask while still maintaining a good seal.

I always read before sleep, but I can't wear my reading glasses with the mask on, so I'll have to get used to putting it on just before I fall asleep.

All in all, I am impressed with the quality of the ResMed AutoSet II, and with the setup in general.

I'm very hopeful that I will get used to using it, and that I will get good results.

I'll report back after night #1!

:)

Hi Rock,

Thanks for the info.

Do you know how to pop off the ResTraxx? I tried to gently remove it, but it didn't seem to budge. I figured it wouldn't be good to break it on the first day ;)

I'm guessing that the data card slot is hiding behind the ResTraxx? What type of data card is it? Is there a way for mere mortals to review the data?
I believe you are correct, Rock HInkle, BUT I know from using the S8 ResLink that there is a blank cap (used for like the Compact), then there is the data card module which has to come off for the ResLink to be attached, and I'd guess the ResTraxx attaches as the ResLink does which means you do have to buy a data card module to do your own downloads to the data card. UNLESS the data card module is tucked in the carry case or whatever w/the Elite.

Rock, is the data from ResTraxx as comprehensive as we get from the data card and then some or is there less data?
Hi Judy,

Oh, I agree. I'm thinking about how I'll be able to extract the data on my own. I don't like the idea of other people (the medical community) telling me I'm not smart enough or sophisticated enough to see information from my machine. Emphasis on MY machine!

To be accurate, though, it's not mine yet. But after 90 days I can request that the insurance company buy off the rental, and then it'll be mine.
There is a square hole in the back of the Resmeds where the blank module, data card module, S8 ResLink or the ResTraxx attaches..

The blank module and the data card module look exactly alike - except the data card module has a slot in it for the data card to slide in. They just look like beige covers for the hole.

Browse around your equipment carry bag and see if you see a small, maybe 1 1/2" square beige "cap". You should either have a blank one or one w/a slot that runs horizontally.
We mainly used it for compliance issues, but yes any info that you can extract from the machine can be downloaded through the ResTraxx. I am hoping that this feature becomes more standard in practice. It is a great way fro practitioners to monitor PAP therapy while keeping the cost down for all. i would imagine that eventually there will be some kind of subscription cost, but it should be far less then the cost of an appointment.

In the same vein and with a few additional questions-
on my ResMed AutoSet II I was able to access results/efficacy data by pressing the right and left arrow buttons at the same time for a few seconds- a new menu pops up. The results I was able to get were % leak, AHI, AI, HI, and hours used.
This was all I was/am interested in- how much leakage so I can make adjustments to the mask fitting, events per night, and how long I slept.

A few questions for you knowledgeable folks. My new VPAP Auto 25 gives leak, RR, pressure, and AHI which I understand.
I also gives VT (260-520), MV (3.3-6.1) % spont T:(0%), %spont c:(0%),
none of which I understand. Can someone please clue me in? I sure would appreciate the insight.

Good luck Andy, keep us posted.
By the way, my DME tech says a lot of his clients don't like the ResTraxx as it gives compliance data and they aren't compliant with the machine. I realize from other postings people have other issues with the ResTraxx e.g. privacy, can Restraxx , or any data, be subpoenaed if you are in an accident. In this event I don't think the ResTraxx data would be any more intrusive than your doctor's report. I know when I am falling asleep or extremely sleepy during the day that I cannot drive, or operate saws and such power tools. Would be foolish.

Day after Night One, and Night Two Update!

Well, the ay after my first night with CPAP went very well. I have some sinus pain on my right side. However, I was awake all day! I only yawned once! And I didn't hit the wall I usually do around 3:00pm to 4:00pm, and again around 7:00pm.

There's hope!

Night Two Update

On the first night the mask was a little tight, so I thought I'd try to loosen it a bit n night two. Went to bed around 12:30am, and had no major issues. I did feel like the mask was leaking a bit, but I couldn't really tell.

I slept through until 6:00am, a record for me! I only woke at that time because my wife was making a racket getting up...

I checked the stats and found a .06L/s leak, AHI 6.8, AT .2, HI 6.6. the first night the leak was 0, and AHI was only .8, so I guess those leaks make a big difference.

Tonight I'll tighten it back up, and see how that goes.

Very happy with this, and thrilled with the way it's going!

I can't seem to find a way to read prior days stats with the ResMed AutoSet II. Is there a secret way to do that?

Thanks!
You can't find a way to access the prior night's stats 'cause there is no way to do so. At least not until you've used your Resmed a full 7 days - and then you will only get the total average for those 7 days.

These CPAPs have internal, 24 hour, noon-to-noon clocks. At noon each day the previous night's data rolls over into the total averages.
