"I have a REMStarPro M series. It is set at a pressure of 8 cmH20. It has a heated humidifier that is set at 1. The C-Flex is set at 2. I use the Resmed Swift LT nasal pillows mask with a Respironics Dulux Chin Strap. My readings are as follows:

Therapy Usage - 7 day avg - 7:12 Sessions - 7 day avg - 7
System Leak - 7 day avg - 33.5 APN/HYP Index - 7 day avg - AHI 4.6

My doctor didn't really seem interested in these readings, and said before my appointment that it wasn't necessary to bring my smart card with me.

What would you say about the above readings?? I have also heard that you dream more when you are in REM sleep. Is that true?"

I'm impressed that you have provided us w/such complete information regarding the CPAP and accessories you are using! Good on you! You obviously are taking an interest and active part in your CPAP therapy! If only there were MORE xPAP patients such as yourself!

Your AHI of 4.6 is good. An AHI less than 5.0 is good. It is especially good if the AI is less than 1.0 and HIs make up the rest of the AHI.

I can't comment on your Leak rate as I don't have the Swift LT literature handy to check the chart. I don't remember where I stashed it. I know I saved it but ....

As for dreams and REM sleep .... not my forte. "They" say (or used to say) that the dreams you remember are those you were wakened from. If REM is when we experience most dreams and the former is true - then it ain't so good your'e remembering your dreams. That would indicate that your REM sleep is being disturbed. My sleep was phershtunga for years and I don't think I remember 10 dreams in my entire 67 years.
This data all looks fine to me, including the leak, which seems perfectly reasonable at 33.5. On your other question, yes it's true that we dream more in REM sleep than in Non REM sleep.
Your numbers are good on many levels. I'm guessing, but perhaps your doctor wouldn't know what these numbers mean. No harm there. I know many board certified sleep docs who are good at what they do & don't know diddly about machines. If they did they wouldn't need folks like me!

I'm not nuts about your leak, but it's not a real problem...if...

Hoe are you feeling? How are your afternoons? Symptoms better? If your numbers are as reported & your days & nights are better, success!

You can dream in all stages of sleep. REM dreams are more likely to be vivid, and may even have a plot, while NREM dreams are said to be more mundane. REM is also a lighter sleep than stage 3 (NREM/SWS). This means that it will be easier to be aroused out of REM, which would make dream recall higher. The studies on dreams are all over the place. D. W. Conn explained dreaming as a defragging process. I think that his theory is one of the most logical that I have encountered.
