Yer just being polite and don't really wanna know. I have this direct male ancestor b:1649 who settled in Delaware cnty, PA c 1682. We've never been able to document where he came from or his parentage. Unfortunately, my fellow researchers are all females too. We've been trying to find AT LEAST TWO LIVING DIRECT MALE DESCENDENTS who are willing to do one of the genealogical DNA Y marker tests so we can try to tie that original immigrant ancestor to a branch of the family somewhere on the Continent, most likely England, quite likely Wiltshire but ....... there are two main branches in the USA today so we are hoping to get at least one living male direct descendent from each line. Better yet would be two from each line but .... hey, beggars can't be choosers.

So, yeah, I am too busy, Rock Hinkle!!! So there. Nyah, nyah. *wicked grin*
I like geneology. unfortuanately quite a bit of my family history was lost in Germany during WWII. The Hinkles that came to America had to change the spelling of the name and hide out from the Nazi party. Someone in my lineage did a very bad thing. Not a good time for the Hinkle clan. Good luck in your hunt.

Well, if the Nazis didn't like it, it was probably a very good thing someone in your family did. My mother's paternal side comes from the area of a castle in Germany that carries their surname that Patton saved from Nazi destruction. It was NOT a good time for the entire world.
My dad was there when they liberated the Jews. He served 5 years in the infantry, Army branch. He was very proud of his military service and instilled in us kids that we are not to take our citizenship lightly. He NEVER would discuss the things that he saw or had to do over there and we learned never to ask.

It was sad for a long time after we were born my father hated the Germans and spoke harshly of them, it was only later in life that he was able to be at peace and acknowledged that not all Germans were bad. For this I am grateful that he could see past the Nazi regime.
