Dennis,
Please share the details such as type of machine, type of mask and the settings. What can't you tolerate? The mask, pressure, both, what?
The answer may be in the details.
some people have luck acclimating themselves to CPAP by wearing it while awake for periods of time watching TV, or reading a book. but we really need more information about how long you've been using it and exactly what kind of machine you have to give good, specific to your situation advice. can you tell us more?
Like I told Dan I will have to dig my machine out & get the info as it's been a long time since I've actually used it. My brother has a machine & says he wouldn't go to bed without it so I guess it's just 'me'. By the way my dr. told me that no one has ever died from this, but apparently that's not true, right?

am having same issues with my CPAP - have only been using it for about a month regularly, but have so far suffered from sore throat, dryness in throat & sinus drip resulting in an infection. is this all temporary? i do have a chin strap with my nasal pillows, but it doesn't seem to help with the dry throat. i often also find that in my sleep i will take my mask off and i will wake up and it will be on the floor next to my bed!
I am having the same problem. I was diagnosed in January. I go to bed, read a while until I feel drowsy (my normal routine), then I put on the mask and I'm wide awake. I will lie there for hours without sleep while the mask is on my face. I know I need to use the machine but it sure isn't helping me sleep at this rate. My husband also as sleep apnea and has never had any problems w/ the machine. So I don't know what to do. Any ideas?
Try putting on your mask while reading and preparing to go to sleep. If you get used to the pressure while you're still active, it may help you fall asleep easier (as opposed to reading for awhile, and then putting the mask on just before you go to sleep).
