I went back to neuro doc today for a follow up visit after my sleep study. I brought with me the copy of the report I previously had posted here thru Mike. He did not have a copy of the study that I had - I told him I had brought it with me but he said it wasn't necessary that he see it. He must have had some type of written report because he told me he felt like it was helping me. He said to make another appt. in one year. Now I ask you - who is supposed to monitor this thing now??? I talked to him about my mask leakage and he gave me a website that might be helpful - nomask.com. I looked it up. I asked them 3 questions 1) what if you have dentures up top 2) how does your mouth stay closed during sleep (think maybe you just have to bite down all night!!!) and 3) what is the cost and is it covered by insurance. Will let you know when and if I hear back. Take a look - its amazing!!!! In the mean time, I guess I will try to find someone here who can monitor my card as the tech who did it for me last time is not happy with me - I asked for yet another mask because she sent me a new gel mask but it was a large, and I definitely do not wear a large!! See what I mean ---- I am living in LaLa land!!! Ron, the leaky mask man!!!!

Ron,
Is LA LA LAND next to FANTASY LAND?

The sleep report you took with you should have been the same report to which the lab sent to the "physician". To me, that shows that a lack of communication exists or you are being treated by a group of quacks, and so far "it walks like a duck". I would also have demanded a copy of "his report" so you could review it. Did it contain different, more pertinent information?

The one-year follow-up seems to be the standard line they use, so as to continue the re-occurring revenue they think they have started.

The minute he referred you to nomask.com following a question about mask leakage would have been my last exchange of intelligent conversation with this "doctor".

The next thing I would do is to dump the "DME". It appears that they have no concern in assisting the patient. It sure doesn't appear that they even bothered looking at your file.

There are to many "trunk slamming" DME's in existence and the only way to change them is put them out of business by taking the business elsewhere - to one who has standards and the patient’s interests as their core value.

The sad thing about the sleep medicine field is it appears that a number of “physicians” are attempting to practice in the field because it is a quick and lucrative monetary practice, easy to equip, and low liability risk
i totally agree. My wife called my ENT who is having me come in Monday with my print out info from the 30 days on my ASV machine. I have requested from the doctor I just saw that whatever report he has be sent to my ENT as well. They have assured me that they will go over this all with me and they will write me a script to go elsewhere for my DME supplies and monitoring. Thank you GOD!! FINALLY!!!! This ENT was the first place I went to see if he would talk to me about possible throat surgery or implants to help my sleep apnea. He is the one who sent me for another study and because of the issue about central sleep apnea he asked me to find a neuro to see me - he was concerned about a CT scan that had shown gray matter loss. I guess, like you said, the neuro saw the opportunity to get the revenue. But no more - uh uh. At last I think we are gettin r done! And yeah, I think LaLa land is after Fantasy Land!

I live near los angeles, If that's what you mean by lala land. If your mask is leaking ....1.) It's not tight enough. 2.) It does not fit. 3.) your mouth might be opening.
The level of care they give at some/most sleep labs must be much worse than I thought. If you are in California and You want help. I will make sure that happens. Let me know. The doctor here , and the techs, me being one of them know that treatment never ends. Well there you have it. The balls in your court.
Duane, thanks for your comments and I wish right now I did live LA. (and no lala land is totally different 'place' lol) I live in a small town in NC, and that is part of the problem. Have to go near a large city to get care. If only the mask problem was that easy. Some people's faces obviously 'fit' well with a mask. Mine, obviously not. Have to wear full face mask - due to central sleep apnea. Wear upper dentures (when you take these out at night your face changes!!! - so do you wear your teeth to sleep????) Since this ASV machines works a little differently from a regular BiPap what happens when your brain doesn't get the signal to have you BREATHE - the machine picks up your pre-recorded breathing pattern and takes over until your own body gets the message - that is the way I understand it. Wonderful machine. Terrible that the mask issue IS still such an issue. I am sure there are many on this site who have gone thru nightmares trying different masks until they finally get one that works - surely I am not the first! Been thinking that maybe it would be better to just sleep under a 'tent', like an oxygen tent. No mask problems!!!! JK Anyway, I am determined to get something that I don't throw off in my sleep!!!! I will either get it or die trying. Ron
