I was diagnosed with sleep apnea and now have a cpap which I am finding difficult to get used to.
When I went for my sleep test, I was tested while sleeping on my back....my normal sleep position.

In doing research on sleep apnea, I read that sleeping on the side produces less snoring and less apnea.
For the past week, I have slept on my side without the mask and have been experiencing refreshing sleep. Here is what I want to know.

Why would I be tested on my back? Shouldn't I be tested on my side as well BEFORE cpap was prescribed? Is sleeping on my back a substitute for wearing the cpap machine?

Looking forward to a good discussion here.

They have you sleep on your back because that is where people have the most bad sleeping events. So naturally they titrate you in that position. Worse case scenario as someone has said.

it might be worth it for you to get the Zzoma device to force you to sleep on your side. I've heard of some people having good luck with it. Then take it to the sleep lab with you and get tested with it. If you stay on your side, and don't have apnea events, then it could be a substitute for the CPAP machine. Those are a lot of "ifs" but all this is capable of being determined through experimentation and looking at hard numbers.
A titration that produces Supine REM rebound is an optimal titration. Even though you are experiencing refreshing sleep on your side I am sure that you are probably still having events.
