My husband was recently diagnosed with severe sleep apnea. I'm really worried about him and I'm having trouble sleeping too! haha. we just ordered a CPAP machine but I'm hoping to find another way to help him. I'm really new to this sleep apnea thing so I'm not sure what will work. I did find this other thing though... I'm not sure if it works because I haven't found anything else like it on the internet. It's a pill that you take a half hour before you go to bed and it says its guaranteed to help you get a good night's sleep and all that. I ordered a bottle so we will see if that works better than the machine. If anyone wants to check out this pill its from Nature's Rite. I hope that works because I like to sleep when its quiet and I've heard this machine is really loud! Wish me luck!

be careful what you take with apnea. Sedatives can be dangerous.
the website said that it doesn't matter if you're taking other medications. because its all natural i guess its ok
Natalie,
Sleep Apnea is the cessation of breathing/airflow during sleep. An Apnea is a cessation of breathing/airflow which lasts 10 seconds or longer. Death from Sleep Apnea is a reality, as are other extremely serious health conditions.

Right now, your husband is not resting well as a result of the body reacting to the apneas. The application of a sleep medication may prevent him from reacting, thus decreasing his ability to stimulate himself to resume breathing.

Your expressed anxieties are the reaction to a series of unknowns and apprehensions.

I am hoping you can tell us that you and your husband got copies of his complete sleep study and a copy of his script to which the doctor issued. The script should have read " the machine and mask of the patients choosing" and included the setting to which were required. Your husband will need these 2 items for his continued success with *PAP. They are vital pieces in his therapy and he is entitled to them by law. MAKE COPIES.

There are various manufactures of equipment on the market place. He should have been allowed to choose the one he liked that met his needed requirements per his script. The majority of the machines are exceptionally quiet an actually the sound that they emit are very similar to white noise. The biggest concern I would have had is that the machine be data capable so he could track his treatment, determine his needs, and see where the problems might be.

Next, you and your husband need to educate yourselves to the condition of Sleep Apnea. Arming your self with knowledge is the best pill you both could take.

With the acquired knowledge, you can then ask the proper questions of your doctor, suppliers, and other users. This forum is a great source of opinions and expertise.

As with almost everything, there are unscrupulous persons waiting to prey on a person’s fears and ignorance. You need to ask questions and demand answers and accept nothing for granted. This is from the doctors, DME’s, and the insurance companies on down. Remember they are the ones to whom you are paying your money and they will separate it from you, very efficiently and quickly if you allow them to.
Beware quick fixes and miracle cures.
Lets make something very clear now ...A PILL WILL NOT CURE SLEEP APNEA! But I have heard of Magic Fairy Dust being used on unicrons apena's.
Thank you all for your comments. I really appreciate your thoughts and guidance. But I have to say that yesterday we received the bottle of the "magic pills" and my husband did notice an improvement. Maybe you could tell me what you think. The company is Nature's Rite. Do you think he should keep taking them? The videos on the site sounded legit, but again, I don't know much about all of this. Thank you again!
Here is the disclaimer from the bottom of Nature's Rite web advertisement page. It says it all.

"The information presented here is not intended to diagnose health problems or to take the place of professional medical care. If you have persistent health problems or if you have further questions, please consult your health care provider."

You need to get a hold of Duane and get the link to the Fairy Dust.

I am going to be blunt. From the way your notes read, you are scared to death and grasping at any straw. You are the type of person those videos are made for. These people prey on people in your position.

You need to read the following link and then decide what your next purchase will be.

I am not a doctor and I know very little about natural remedies. Being a sleep tech I would like to explain a few things to you about apnea. You have to think of your esophagus as a straw. When you are awake it is like a plastic straw firm and open. When you are asleep the lining of your esophagus loses it's firmness, and the muscles supporting it relax. At this point it becomes more like the old paper straws. As you breath in and out the relaxed sides vibrate causing snores. Eventually the sides will come together preventing air from getting through at all. this is an apnea. It takes about 10 seconds for your brain to recognise that it is not breathing and begin the process of arousing or waking you up. Chamomile is a natural sedative. This could actually prevent the brain from activating what I like to call the apnea defense system. This could result in a much longer apnea or even complete asphyxiation. The reason your husband is seeing results is because he is sedated and does not remember being aroused. I have never heard of cramp bark. On the site it advertises muscle relaxation. This again could and will make your husbands apnea worse. It is muscle relaxation and sagging that cause apnea. There is no quick fix to apnea. Your husband will probably be on CPAP for the rest of his life.I will not judge whatever decision you make, but I implore you to throw those pills away.
Oh thank you all so much!! I didn't know how much help these forum things would be but I've gotten a lot out of it. I will post any other questions I have on here. Thank you again!
