L tryptophan taken over a long term period could cause liver spots. I am looking for more info on this.

Back in the 1980's this was touted as a great sleep aid. Then it was discovered that those taking this for any length of time were developing spots on their liver. I use to take two every night to sleep. When I saw the liver information I asked a Doctor at the VA Med center if this was correct. She said that the info was correct. Never took it again. I'd check this out for yourself. Many of us Vets were using this as a sleep aid

this is the stuff that makes us sleepy from Thanksgiving turkey, right?
What do spots on the liver indicate? Are liver spots dangerous? Why? I use around 2000 mgs of L'Tryptophan to sleep (along with one ambien) each night. I noticed that GNC isn't carrying L'Tryptophan any longer and I wondered why.
In myth yes Mike it is. I don't actually believe that there is enough in a turkey to make you sleepy though. I believe over eating on thanksgiving is what truly makes us sleepy.

BP My father has liver spots from hepatitus. I believe it to mean dead spots on the liver. I could be wrong though.

I thought "liver spots" were skin discolorations, often associated with aging. The only relation to the liver is that they are liver-colored.
