here is a report with her questions:

"i did get the cpap machine. i used it last night. i hope i used it right! i hooked it all up. it was supposed to be preset for it to start at 4 and go to 13.. to me.. it felt as if the pressure was the same from when i put it on? also, the distilled water i put in the canister part up to the line..
is that supposed to be pretty much full when you wake in the morning...meaning should the water still be in it exactly as when i started it?

just not sure if it is working the way it is supposed to.., i feel some pressure and all... and did not fall asleep until an hour at least after i had it on.. never really felt any change in pressure?

please let me know., if you know.. what i should expect.

the humidity was supposed to be preset at 2.. i did not see that number show up when i put it on.
so i put it to 2 this morning after reading the settings.

thanks for any info you may be able to help with., donna lyn"

hello.. ok.. third night with cpap.... better.... pressure is good.. i am adjusting to the levels. the humidity setting at 2 seems good... the only reason i feel i am not really "resting" that much., is i seem to have to fuss with the mask a few times during the night. to tell you the truth it really is not that much of a bother. i just loosen or tighten depending on what is bothersome to me.
i keep a log of each night using the machine. i write notes as to what i felt, pros and cons. this is just the third night and it seems to be getting better not worse.. so that is a great sign.
i can actually feel the pressure open up my airways in the back of my throat... i also am learning to relax and just breath...
i never had a problem sleeping.. or falling asleep.., my problem is my breathing, lack of energy, and just plain ill feeling.
my pulmanary doctor is the one who first told me about the cpap... i had no idea what he was talking about at first....(talk about not being aware).... it made no sence at first... then., after reading up on it., and going for the sleep study... and realizing how much it effected my everyday life.... i had a change of heart.
i now believe that the cpap machine does and will work for a number of people... i for one , being a person who can hardly walk a block without losing my breath.. i can see how this air pressure being pushed into your airways through your nose, can help.... it makes so much sence now.
if you sit and think about the whole procedure , you realize how it can help.
biggest problem here is the "awareness" as you say. PEOPLE DO NOT KNOW ABOUT IT. THEY HAVE NO IDEA THAT MANY OF THEIR OWN HEALTH ISSUES CAN BE HELPED WITH THIS.
MAYBE IF THE NEWS MEDIA GOT IT OUT THERE.....? DID A FEW SEGMENTS ABOUT THE POSITIVE EFFECTS THIS HAS....WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK? ANYONE CAN CONTACT THEIR LOCAL NEWS AND SUGGEST IT...
WELL., ANYWAY.., SO FAR SO GOOD... I WILL BE BACK...TY DONNA LYN

Hey Donnalyn,

Glad to see some things are starting to click in. You seem to have found a humidity setting you are comfortable with. It may vary slightly, depending on the relative humidity around you, but at least you have established a median.

How did you sleep? Did you rest comfortably? You say you tossed and turned. How do you know? To me tossing and turning is not comfortable.

Do you know how to retrieve data from your machine? If you need help in retrieve it, let us know. We will help you in learning how. If it were I, I would keep a log of the data and your nightly opinions as these will aid in your treatment.

What type of full-face mask do you have? (what brand and style) Is it comfortable and did you try any other styles?

The length of time you use *PAP is totally dependent upon you, the patient. Many factors dictate its treatment, i.e., body weight, habits, and ailments. Some of these can be overcome simply by life style changes such as diet, smoking cessation, etc. Others may require medical alterations or surgery. Everyone is different. The object though is to sleep healthy.

Success stories happen every day around here.
