How long have you been using the mask that is bothering you? How long have you been using a cpap?

Which mask are you using? Somewhere on the mask, hopefully, it will tell. If not please give us more description, if you are able.

I used Ayr gel when I was toughening my nares up. Others have used lanolin successfully. Do not use petroleum based products as they have a tendency to break down the silicone.

I found this happening when I do not have the straps adjusted properly and it is actually pulling the pillow up instead of onto your face.. Man does it cause some discomfort...

Nasal pillows do "apply" the air pressure more directly into your nostrils than a nasal cushion or a full face mask. You may need a little more humidity if this is a recent problem. AND some Ayr Saline Nasal Gel or even Ayr Saline Nasal Spray tho I personally feel the Gel is better in this type of situation. NEVER use petroleum based products in or near the nostrils. It is detrimental to your health.

Also it could be that your headgear is not quite centered on your head and pulling your nasal pillows slightly more to one side than the other, or the hose is tugging your nasal pillows slight more to one side than the other if it is just one nostril and the pillow itself is rubbing the interior of your nose. That was a problem I had w/the original Swift. And you are right about the air "burning" .... it felt like someone pouring salt on a raw wound!

Are you cleaning your nasal pillows regularly? The suggested regimen is daily cleaning with soap and water. The symptoms you describe could be due to dirty pillows irritating your nostrils.

I was having that problem and I was told to get the aloe gel with lidocaine that you use when you have a sunburn.
They told me to put just a small amount around the nasal part....I started using and it works perfect and it helps give you a good seal.

This is one of the problems with Nasal Pillow masks.

If you can tolerate wearing a nasal mask to allow your nares to heal, that would be great.
