And I do mean "delivered". It was thrown at my husband from a moving car as he stood on the sidewalk....... (not really). But it was "dropped off" to my husband (he signed the DME papers) with no instructions and no user manual. He was told to "just follow the prompts on the machine", and that he didn't really "need" a manual because it is just like my ResMed Escape. (really?? hummm) I am now reading through the user/clinical manual that you guys forwarded to me for this machine, so I actually have a fighting chance to set things up. I am hopeful that I can actually get this done before bedtime tonight. I have a feeling I will have more questions tomorrow.

I am shocked at the lack of care and professional support from the DME. But I am just going to keep talking to you guys on the forum and go to my doctor and make the best of the situation. I feel like I am informed because I read 90% of this forum most days. It is so very helpful, thanks to all of you who give your support and expert advice.

Well, I am a spiteful ole broad. I would complain to my insurance company about the way your AutoSet was delivered, no instructions, no setup, etc. These brick & mortar DME suppliers will continue such practices as long as we allow them to. Insurance companies will begin to drop those local suppliers who provide lousy and inadequate service if we they are made aware of the problems we encounter.
Hey, I thought I was the only spiteful ole broad. :>D I have to contact my insurance company anyway about the rental and how long before I will own my machine. It isn't in any paperwork I have signed. So when I ask Great West about the machine and supplies I will also tell them how unprofessional the DME has been. I actually started a journal of the steps I have taken to get my xPAP, it is a hoot. Keeping track of all the phone calls and what was said helps to verify my concerns about the DME. Geeze, I was tired before. Now I am really tired! :>D

By the way, I got the machine set up with the Clinical instruction manual, so we will see how this first night goes with the new xPAP! Sweet dreams!

And many sweet dreams to you too, BeeASleep!!!!
Bee, sorry to hear about your unfortunate (but not uncommon) DME experience, but I'm so excited for you that you have what could very well shape up to "bee" your dream machine. Eager to hear how it goes for you tonight!
BeeAsleep -- I know -- aren't forums wonderful places?

It is a shame though that so many users do NOT find the forums and then struggle and give up. No wonder the compliance rate is so lousy.
WOW, the ResMed S8 Autoset II is WAY different than the Escape, not even the same experience at all! I noticed that the inhale was stronger --with a little "air puff" at the end of the inhale...sort of a weird sensation, but ok just the same. The exhale was WONDERFUL, I didn't feel like I was drowning...I could actually exhale! I slept all through the night like a baby with no problems at all. When I woke up this morning I actually felt like I had been "breathing"...you know what I mean? I could feel my lungs like I do when I work out and breathe deeply. And for the first time since I have had my xPAP I have ENERGY! I am not going to get my hopes up, because maybe this is a fluke. But I feel really rested and have energy. (yea!)

Plus a side benefit is that the machine is much quieter than the Escape and the lights on the machine go out at night, imagine that!

I am meeting with my doc in a few weeks, and I will be taking her the printouts from my new machine. :>D

I can't imagine what I would have done without this forum. Yes I can, I would have gotten frustrated, upset and given up.
So once again, thanks for basically saving my life.

You hand in there. I also suggest you call the homecare company ask for teh respiratory therapist to come out and go over the machine with you.

The issue may not be the company but the insurence company I am afraid to say. Some of the big companies no longer pay for the patient to have instructions. In fact the companies are penalized for a home visit.

They are required to give you instructions if you ask. So ask for a respiratory therapist.
I am so sorry to read these 'horror' stories. My provider worked thru the local hosp. sleep lab and was very professional. They gave manuals, full instruction, follow up, several phone calls after delivery, etc. They still contact me (after 1 1/2 year) and have been great about delivering supplies as needed. They were very clear about when I 'owned' the machine, which happened after about 1000 hours of use. I was called to confirm use: total hours, average hours per night, sleep therapy response, mask fit, etc. When I reached the stage that my mouth was opening in my sleep and letting air 'blow by' then quickly sent me a chin strap.
Thanks Amy. I did get a manual for the Escape, but the DME was just not interested in doing anything but dropping off the S 8 Autoset II. Because I had instructions from this forum, I was able to sit on the floor and read through the directions to make sure my mask type was entered correctly, etc.

It is a sorry state off affairs when those that need help get caught in-between the doctors, the insurance companies, the DMEs. Sadly the person that suffers the most is the patient.:>(
