Still Snoring with CPAP
I have gone through all the sleep studies and was diagnosed with CSA. I was not diagnosed with RLS (thats my wife). I am very commited to useing the CPAP treatment. I have only missed one night of use and that was out of my control. Needless to say I have had dificulties adjusting to this new way of life. I won't go into all the nitty gritty because after reading the forums it sounds as though my issues are common for the most part.
My wife tells me that I am still snoring periodically through the night. Is this normal. My pressure setting initially was set to 7. It was just bumped up to 9.5 and I am still snoring. I have only been on this pressure 1 night. Should I waite it out or call my doc. back.
I still to this point have not recieved any relief from being tired throughout the day. This CPAP treatment has actually made me even more tired to this point.
I must add that I am currently on Effexor XR 10mg/day for anxiety disorder.

Well here goes. I am not a Doctor but Effexor may be making your sleep lighter. The chemicals in anti depressents cause an alpha intrusion in your brain waves. Alpha is what your brain waves look like when your'e awake. If your still snoring you are not at the right pressure or your mouth may be opening, or the mask may be leaking.....that reduces your pressure. Do you sleep with your mouth open?

I am useing a full face mask. I have woken up with a dry mouth on several occasions in the last couple weeks. If I am useing a full face mask; does it matter if my mouth opens??
I was given Lunesta to make me sleep but could not continue useing it. All the next day I felt extremely tired and actually sick/dizzy.

I just recently started snoring myself with my mask on. At first I was sure it was because my mask had started leaking so I got a new one. That one isn't leaking that I can tell, but I'm still snoring. I think it's due to my pressure either needing increasing or my machine not putting out like it should.
My suggestion is to call the doctor. I would expect your snoring to be gone if the pressure was right.
And maybe ask your doc about the Effexor too. Duane might have a point. Possibly changing the time of day you take it or something could help? Surely they can do something. I'd imagine missing out on restful sleep can't be good for an anxiety disorder at all.

I do not have copies of the sleep studies. I do know that the diagnosis was Central Sleep Apnea. I dont know about the titration study results. I just know the pressure was initially set to 7. I will call my doctor to get all test reports.

I was completely wrong about the CSA. I looked through the paperworkk tonight and It does say OSA. I have asked my doc to send me the reports. I will post results when I get them. Sorry again. I will contact my primary doc. tommorow and tell him about the treatment I am now on and possible interactions with my current meds.

a full face mask mustbe worn pretty tight! you could be leaking . Large leaks reduce your CPAP pressure. I've gotten so frustrated with full face mask I try not to use them anymore unless I have to. A nasal pillowl unit with a chin strap doesn't leak at all. A chin strap can just be a training device until muscle memory can be achived. You might not be titrated correctly if your'e not leaking and still snoring /feeling sleepy. Lunesta can have the dizzy side effect too. No Drugs and no leaks that's about all I can suggest.
