My name is Linda Wilkinson;

I am the wife of some-one who may have "Sleep Apnea", I was
just woundering if Spouses or Partners of people who may have or
do have "Sleep Apnea" are up late at night, if not staying awake at night
to make sure that thier other half sleeps safely & soundly?

Thank You for helping me when I needed it though.

Although taking large amounts of Gravol to fall asleep during the
day time hours is most likely Not a good thing to do. But it is
the only way I've found that helps me relax during the day,
unless My Husband comes in from doing what ever it is
he's doing out side to take a nap, then I'm wide awake & cannot -
no matter how much Gravol I take - fall back to sleep.
Then I turn into .....
"The Wicked Witch Of The North".
Most likely because I'm burnt out physically & chemically. I know
I've brought on being chemically burnt my-self, but I just can't
see any other way to it right now. At least not with-out
proper medical help which we highly lack here in North Bay, Ontario.
You know some-times I think it's the word "North" that scares
the Doctors from coming up here to practice medicine, that's
just my opinion, but I could still be right.

It is very common for the bed partners of people with untreated sleep apnea to also have sleep problems. 1) Listening to loud irregular snoring can make it difficult to sleep; 2) If you can hear pauses in breathing, followed by a gasp for air, it can be extremely stressful wondering when he's going to breathe, ot if he's just dropped dead; Sleep apnea can be accompanied with Periodic Limb Movement Disorder, which can cause your bed partner to be kicking you in the middle of the night.

Do yourself and your bed partner a favor. Insist that he see a doctor about his sleep issues and get him tested for sleep apnea. You will sleep better for it!

Thank you Daniel;
I have spoken to my Husband just yesterday morning after I found this site.
I so know what you mean about the kicking & such but I prefer that to no breathing
that one wakes me right up, if I chose to go to sleep when he does. I have found it much easier if I just stay awake at night & give him the day time hours to work or putter around (is what I call it...lol) while I sleep during most, ok, well part of the day.
It's not a perfect soloution but for now it works.

I wanted to add about our Dr. not being one of the best Dr.s I've ever seen or had because,
my oldest Daughter moved up here from Oakville, Ont. & I got our Dr. to take her & her 2 children at the time. Any-way, she's just moved even farther North, to Sault St. Marie, Ont.
she was pleged with stomach pains for about 21/2 years she saw a Dr. there only to be told that she has cancer of the overies & that it should have been spotted by "her Dr." over a year ago (My Dr.) she's been treated because they caught it early enough, but I feel like I let her down by
sending her to our Dr.
Any-way, I just wanted to get that out.
I realize this is not that kind of forum, but it is medical.
Sorry. I'll keep my ranting to my-self now.
Thank You.
Sorry to hear about your daughter.

I don't have any experience with your sleep med, but do be careful as many of them can have serious side effects.

Is your husband dead set against a sleep study? Is it not having the best medical available? Is there sleep clinic nearby?

Point him in the direction of this forum and find out about the serious health risks involved in having sleep apnea.

Impaired cognitive ability
Diabetes
Obesity
Heart related issues
Increased accidents
and others

How old is your hubby? Does he have other health issues that could be contributed to the sleep apnea?
I'm sorry to hear about your daughter altho really glad to learn they've still caught in early.
Hello sleepycarol;
Thank you for your concern about my Daughter, as for my Husband the
only thing he has against any kind of treatment for Sleep Apnea is he's
claustrophobic & says the mask is out. Just talking to him about a mask
& he started to sweat & look a tad pale. As for the obesity, heart related issuses & impared cognitive abilities he's still good there oh & the diabetes he's good there too.
We do have a sleep lab here where he could get checked out for sleep apnea but if they need to put any kind of mask on his face....good luck with that.
My Husband is 56 years old, other than his back being shot from an accident at work in 1989 &
that we are raising our GrandDaughter since birth (So basically our Daughter) she's a teenager 16, does that give any-body any insight on things now....lol. We're just young Grandparents :^)
But not having a Dr. that seems to care about his patients the way ours doesn't, really really does not help & not beig able to change Dr.s bites big ones too. So we're dammed if we do & dammed if we don't.
But now that I have found this site & forum we have a much better chance at living longer I'm thinking. The only reason I even know that there is a Sleep Clinic here is because our all knowing Dr. sent my Daughter there....for her stomach pains. She said "at least I got a good night sleep with-out the kids waking me up all night."
So, once again Thank You.

Hello Judy;
Thank you for your concern about my Daughter, I'm glad she found a Dr. that knew
what he was doing. When we (My Husband, our Little One & I) moved up here from Toronto
I thought we hit pay dirt when we first started seeing our Dr. because he found out
that I was being treated for an aparent heart attack only to find out that not only
had I not had a heart attack but that I had a second heart murmer, I was born with one.
I was so glad to see a Dr. that had not takin things for granted....ha! Was I a fool.
My first born almost died because of that quack! Who we're stuck with because there
are no new Dr.s for us to change to.
O.k. I've got to get off of this "I hate our Dr. kick" or I'll just get, what's that word that
sounds like "Witchy?"....lol
Again thank you for your concern.
Scott Wilkinson's wife Linda
