I am from Canada and it looks like things here work differently than in the US......my CPAP rep told me that if I want to monitor my data on a regular basis that it will cost me $45.00 per session.....he said I can buy the software to be able to download the data from the internet which will cost me $225.00.

For those of you who read your data daily can you tell me if this sounds about right for the cost of this software....I really don't want to spend $45.00 each time I get my data read, I think it is important to know how I am progressing with my cpap therapy.

Hi Belinda,
I commend you on wanting to educate yourself and understand more about your therapy. So many folks just blindly follow along like sheep.

The "CPAP Rep" and his company are in business to make money, not dispense information for free. You are there to fill their coffer if you listen to their every word without question.

Always keep in mind there is more than one source for your *PAP supplies and you need to shop around. I recently saw one patient who was charged almost 5 times the manufacture's suggest retail cost for his *PAP machine because that is what the DME could command from the insurance carrier. In my mind, that is just out right fraud.

I don't know what type of machine you are using, but check around before you commit to this DME for anything.

Several other places you may want to check are:

CPAP SupplyUSA.com - http://www.cpapsupplyusa.com/CPAP-Departments/CPAP-and-Bilevel-Acce...

CPAP.com - http://www.cpap.com/simple-find-cpap-products/cpap-machines/softwar...

And there are many others besides these.

Some of the software can be confusing, so continue asking questions and someone will always help you.
What brand and model xPAP do you have? We can then better judge your cost and perhaps even advise where to find the necessary software (and often card reader) at a better price.
Thanks so much Dan
Judy I am renting a ResMed Elite S8 with a data chip.....I am not leaving this up to my cpap rep, the last time he read my data he said I had some AHI reading of 8-9 which he said was acceptable, but I read here on some of the discussions that anything over 5 is not good....that is the main reason I want to monitor my therapy.
Until you get the software and cable reader for the Resmeds you can probably access a lot of your data via the LCD screen via a simple button combination IF your local DME supplier turned access to the advanced patient menu on.

BEFORE NOON press the Left and Right buttons and hold for 4-5 seconds. If access to that advanced patient menu has been turned on Efficacy Data will appear on the LCD screen. From there on in it is a simple matter of Left button to Enter, Right button to Exit, Up botton to Return to the previous screen and Down button to Proceed to the next screen.

These xPAPs have an internal, 24 hour, noon-to-noon clock and at noon the previous night's data is rolled over into the total averages.
Belinda,
Send me an email and I can provide you with a library of info concerning this unit. It is the same as I use.

Dan
Remember that our sister store, ApneaLife.com, also carries the Respironics software and data card reader for a package of $199 (will match any price though)
