Hi everybody,

I'm not a great writer, I usually jump right into the question I have and I do have a lot more questions than answers about sleep apnea. I'm here reading a lot, trying on this and on other internet apnea sites to learn and I'd like in advance to thank all the staff and members of sleepguide because this is a forum where more knowledgeable people are willing to help less knowledgeable people who have questions.

I use the encore viewer and card reader to read my nightly data. I'm an evening worker, early morning to noon/early afternoon sleeper. A couple of mornings ago, I closed down my PAP then felt tired, restarted my PAP and tried (with only a little success) to go back to sleep.

The card seemed to have lost the data from the first session and only recorded the latter sessions. I waited a couple of days to see if the lost data would show up but it didn't.

Has this happened to anyone else here? What might cause this to happen?

I also wanted to know about leak data, I usually have leak lines under 50 (normal for my pressure and mask) but often see clusters of lines dipping slightly below the main line, I wanted to know how and why leaks drop slightly at times then quickly go back to the usual number then quickly dip again LOL you get the idea................what might this be an indication of?

I came home from work, clicked SleepGuide on hoping to read an answer to my question and I was kind of surprised, no actually I was very surprised that nobody answered because this forum seems pretty helpful, friendly, informative to me so I pretty much assumed for sure I'd get a reply. I guess with all the other quite interesting posts put up yesterday that my post might have gotten lost in the shuffle, ok I'll bump it up hoping that someone will answer, thanks to all who reply.
I have a hunch why these questions haven't been answered yet.... because they're very good questions and you have us all stumped so far! actually, i know the answer to one of the questions -- the respironics smart cards are notoriously unstable and prone to data loss for any reason or no reason. the resmed machines that keep track of data are a bit better in that the data, i believe, is stored not only on a smart card/smart stick, but also on the actual box - hardware. so if the data gets wiped off the smart card/smart stick, it'll be accessible on the machine as a back up. not so with the respironics.

on your leak question, i've noticed the same pattern on my own data report, but have no explanation for it. perhaps others more knowledgeable than myself on this will chime in with better info on the leak pattern you mentioned.

Thank you Mike for answering,

Yes, I guess these are intelligent or maybe these are tough questions to answer but I hope someone will know the answers......maybe I could find out if I contacted Respironics
The answer is mainly the internal, twenty four hour, noon to noon clock. In your xPAP's "mind" you are sleeping half the "night" in one day and half the "night" in a different day.

Since you are sleeping on both sides of noon I'm not exactly sure just how to remedy the situation. Changing the internal clock from midnight to midnight instead of noon to noon can be done w/the Resmeds but I don't think it can be changed in the Respironics. And even w/the Resmeds I "think" every time you downloaded to your 'puter the clock would be set back to noon to noon as it picks up the correct date and time each time you reinsert the data card back into your xPAP.

Maybe one of our RRTs can better explain and figure out a solution!!
No. I don't have a problem with the BPAP Respironics clock. If I sleep past noon, the record will show that I slept (say just for example) from May 1st say 4:02 AM to May 1st 12:32 PM. In this case, my sleep data from around 5 AM to 10 AM completely disappeared but the data showed up for the time when I restarted my PAP until the time (after noon) when I shut it off again.
The other thing I've read about is the difference in "sessions" between Resmed and Respironics and what each considers a sleep "session" but I don't remember much about it. There was quite a lengthy discussion about it at cpaptalk.com's forum some time ago. You might try asking there.
