I bought and tried for the first time a cervical neck collar instead of my dreaded chin strap!   It worked.  Not perfect, but what is?  My neck does not hurt this morning.  No change in AHI (will see what happens tonight) and only was awakened a few times with mouth "puffing".  So much more comfortable. Wish I had tried it a year ago!!!

My collar seems too stiff, so I have not worn it all night.

What is the brand of your collar? I read that the softer ones are better for sleeping. Does the collar prevent mouth leaks too?

Four nights of using the collar.  No worsening of AHI and my neck feels better still.  I bought this off of Amazon.com for a little over $7 with free shipping.  Might be cheaper somewhere else, perhaps.  The brand is DMI soft foam contoured cervical collar.  Mine is 2.5" wide.  Comes in 4 sizes.  The cloth is 10% cotton, rest polyester.  Wish it had more cotton, maybe.  It may be very warm to wear in the summer. For now though it is a solution of sorts. I am ordering another one so I have one to hand wash and one to wear.  It is nice not to have "rail road" marks on my face that the chin strap left.  It is made by Briggs Medical Service Company.  (in China, of course!) Hope this helps. Oh, and yes, rarely mouth leaks now.

A lot of drugstores sell the soft collar in 3" and 4" sizes.  I bought mine from Walmart and it is supportive as well as being soft.  I am not wearing it now, but may try using it again.

I think mine was about $4.  Good luck,

Mary

Still doing well with cervical collar.  Both 7 day average and 30 day average AHI staying at 1.4.  Sleeping much better than with the chin strap. FOr some reason the Pilairo is even working better with the collar.  Still waiting on availability of Wisp to try.

That's so great, Ginny. Once our heads get positioned, the leaks go down, less wake-ups and better therapy. Makes me think I should give a collar a try.  I'm thinking about the 2 inch Sportcollar.

Still I hate to complicate my therapy, since I seem to be doing so well (AHI aver=0.2, leaks 95% =6 (want lower).  My apneas are long (40 seconds until I increaed the EPR to minutes untreated) so I need to get the level as long as possible.

Not having any leaks.  May take a look at the 2" sport collar. I have a new barrel cozy for the Swift FX.  If you use I would be happy to mail to you.

Do you not like your barrel cozy?  It took me a few weeks after I bought it, to finally use it. Really keeps the pillows stabilized. Karen of Pad-a-Checks will alter it should it not fit right.

I don't use the Swift anymore.  Karen is great!

I just ordered the 2 inch collar, so I'll compare this to my 3 inch collar and post next week. Ginny, what mask do you use? Once your leaks are under control, the pillows are so minimal on the face.Even the Mirage FX nasal for her seems overwhelming.

Right now the Pilairo.  It is very minimal.  And working much better since I took the chin strap away.Interested to hear about the 2" collar?  Where did you purchase it?  Brand name? I am waking up 0-1 times per night now.

The 2" collar was not as soft and comfortable as the 3"collar. Somehow the smaller, but thicker collar felt strangled. So I wore the 3" collar the entire night. The AHI was the same, but the leaks and pressure were both decreased. After a few weeks, I can update further. Ginny, if your collar works, I wouldn't change!

I think it's working.  AHI staying the same as before the collar (chin strap) BUT some nights I wake up with throat and mouth incredibly dry as if mouth had been open some.  Would that matter, as long as AHI is not worsening? The collar is more comfortable than the chin strap.
