I've been on CPAP (with a Resmed S9 machine) for 10 months. After some initial struggles, it has gone quite well, both in terms of my scores and in how I feel. However, recently I've had occasional AHI scores over 6, even over 7. This has happened even when I seem to sleep well, without any mask problems and with good leakage scores. It's erratic--my average scores are still good--but still it's puzzling. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi Bob, It could be a number of variables like: An extra cup of coffee , a certan food may have more salt or spice, Too little hydration, Pollution from a fire, having a mask strap that has stretched , persporation , not shaving, high pollen count, changing the brand or distilled water you use. I suggest you make note of what you did on the good nights  and see if you can identify the variable when things are not so good.  Good Sleep,Chris

Ps. Share your AH HA with us when you get it figured out .

Bob, I agree with Chris, even things like whether conditions can change it. I use the same machine and can give you details on how to get software that you can look at the data better if you want. You will need a card reader if you don't already have one but they are fairly cheap. What probably matters more than your AHI is how you feel.

Many thanks, Chris, for this helpful response. I will monitor this further and see how it goes. I guess if my averages over a month are acceptable then it may not be worth getting too concerned over these occasional nights when my scores are too high.

Many thanks, Terry. I'm able to check my scores every morning, including AHI, Total AI, and Central AI. (As well as hours slept and leakage.) And I can see averages for the last week, the last month, the last three months, the last six months, and the year. Do you think I need more data than that? Basically, I'm feeling pretty good. The most obvious symptoms of the sleep apnea (from before I went on CPAP) are overwhelmingly gone.

No worries Bob, I used to get concerned with mine as well, but now just try to go with the flow, I still check mine each day, it's almost a competition with me. Some people never check theirs and that's up to them, good luck.

Thanks again, Terry. I appreciate your thoughts and good wishes.

I agree with Chris H, it could be a number of variables.  I am on ASV because I couldn't get an AHI under 28.  With the ASV it varies widely with an AHI of 8-15/

7day average.  Another thought is the change of seasons.  AS  long as it doesn't go much higher I would ot be concerneed, but of course that's impossible. Good Luck

I laughed out loud at your last sentence, Mary: "As long as it doesn't go much higher I would not be concerned, but of course that, but of course that's impossible."

    Impossible indeed.

I guess I really meant what I was trying to say. LOL.
