I thought this mask looked pretty cool because I wear a full face mask and while I was in the hospital, someone put it on badly and it damaged the bridge of my nose. Now, months later it is healed but I still wear a band-aid over the bridge of my nose for protection and that seems to have solved my problem. Now after reading all the replies, I might not try this, but I will keep it in the back of my mind if my nose starts getting worse. I am a mouth breather and also on oyxgen 24/7 so even learning how to breathe through my nose for my oxygen is still sometimes difficult, especially when I get short of breath and panic. Thanks for the info!

As a Respiratory Therapist I have put "The Total Mask" on a number of patients. This is the only mask that a particular hospital uses. On occasion I have used it to allow sores on the bridge of the nose to heal on patients (it is very good for this). With this said, these cases are typically for a more critical patient than for someone in the home. I did try it on once and was surprised that it did not dry out my eyes as it somehow avoids directing air to that area. The real problem for the home is that it is cumbersome and very rigid. I would think it would be very difficult to wear while laying in any position other than on your back. It also leaks alot (greater than 40 l/m leak is common) and can make quite a bit of noise. Lastly, I used it with a mega hospital xPAP that has flow capabilities that surpass that of the home unit so I'm not sure if it would actually work with a home unit. I would not recommend it personally for a long term home solution.

I cringe when people have to resort to bandaids. I would checkout other mask options and insist being fit with the best mask your companies have. I'm not sure if it is okay to say but I am very partial to Resmed masks. Whatever you choose make sure it has adjustable forehead pads, it fits well, and clean it (wipe it down) after each use. If your current company isn't willing to help you, find one that will. If you have problems with a provider besure to let your physician know. Sometimes they can add some pressure to the provider, it also lets them know to possibly reconsider sending other patients to a company that isn't servicing his patients well. I hope this helps. It puts NO pressure on your face, but surrounds your face with an envelope of air so the mask, kind of floats. You are not getting a direct blast right into your face but it is gentlier blowing the air into your face. My machine is set on 10(whatever that means),. I believe we all could benifit from more information on apnea and supplies.
