It has been two weeks since I received my CPAP machine .  I have been able to keep the mask on through the night since day one.  The first week I found myself waking up periodically but now have been able to sleep for 6 hrs at a stretch.  The only difficulty I am having is adjusting the mask before I fall asleep .  I am getting a blister on the bridge of my nose.  I tried a liner last night but was having difficulty with it.  Any suggestions?  Thanks, Diane

You are doing well.  Your profile doesn't say what kind of mask you are using, but there are several different liners available.  You can also put a bandaid on the site or moleskin on the mask whre it's rubbing.  Be careful, don't let that sore get out of hand.

Keep us posted.

Diane, Well Done, Mary is right with her suggestions, you may have the top straps a little too tight as well. I put my mask on differently to others just by trial and error. I put it on prior to putting the hose in and turning the CPAP machine on. Also if I need to go to the toilet I turn the machine off and pull the mask from the hose and leave the mask on, that way I don't have to re put it on again.

You're having the same problems I had. I used Mary's recommendations, which were very helpful.

I also switched to a nasal pillow mask but I prefer the nasal mask. I just ordered liners. I look forward to seeing how they work with my nasal mask.

I also ordered the SleepWeaver mask, which I'm looking forward to trying.

You will learn that one of the things we all do is try different things until we find the optimal combination of mask/machine/pressure/humidity level etc., etc. that works for us. We're all quite individual. Swapping ideas on SleepGuide is a great source of support and help.

I understand the frustration, I've been on cpap for 8 months and my mask doesn't give me blisters, but irritates my skin around my nose and top of my forehead, my mask is a resmed quattro, not sure if you're using the same type of mask

There are liners- check out Quietus, RemZzzs, and Pad-a Cheek.  You can also put moleskin on the mask in the areas causing irritation.  I think one of the liners may be your best bet.

There is also an idea you don't hear about much anymore.  Macks Silicone Earplugs.  You take as many as you need and roll into a string the size of a pencil, place around the perimeter of the mask, or troublesome areas.  I used them annd would just remove the silicone every morning (the skin oils make it less sticky the next night), roll it into a ball and put in airtight container. You get them at Wal Mart or the drugstore.

Good Luck, let us know if anything helps.

I am using the same mask.

I am using the Resmed quattro full face mask.  The sleep tech recommended the small mask after my sleep study.

Maybe the mask is too small and need to go to a bigger face mask, have you asked your sleep tech or dr.

Kenneth, I use the Mirage Quattro after trying 4 other masks, I make my own mask liners and cut up some of the material I make the masks with to put under the head set piece which stops it touching my skin. I basically don't have any part of the mask touching my skins and now don't get any marks, rashs etc. Even though I don't have a beard, I have facial hair and oily skin and it seems to help us males. Also I don't have to wash the mash everyday, I do it twice a week throughly or if I drool(Won't go any further with that one).

Another excellent idea.  I have to wash my mask at least 2 to 3 times a week to make sure that I get a good seal.  Thanks for the advice.

Terry: That sounds interesting that you "make your own mask liners". Do you mind sharing how you do that? Many of my patients have an allergy to the plastics, would like to share with them too.

Thanks for that info!
