Do others have the problem of weepy, strained eyes. I have been on a CPAP for approx 2 months, my masks, both nasal pillows and a full face mask show very little leakage, so this is not the problem. My eyes (one in particular) constantly feels as if it has something in it or as if I have been crying for days(which at the moment I feel like doing). I have had the pressure reduced giving a slight improvement, but I can't go any lower. Last night I tried not using the machine and had a bad night have woken with headache and feeling tired again, but my eyes are better. Is anyone having the same experience and is there an answer? Thanks Trish

Hi Trish,
I've only been on cpap for about the same amount of time as you. Within the first week my eyes and sinuses were a mess. I use a Resmed Nasal Pillow with a Respironics Remstar Pro C Flex + (and I have no clue what any of it means once you read past "nasal pillow") unit set currently at 7. my eyes became so sensitive that light hurt, I had a non stop headache for 2 weeks and my sinuses hurt just to touch. My original setting was 8 which I think in the scheme of things is relatively low. I get a bit of run around from the doctors office who sent me for the study and the sleep machine folks. I asked for a NSAID nasal spray from doc and never got. I did several things to get me through the debacle: 1) I took a 7 day supply of Prednisone - prescribed for a recent rotator cuff injury but hoped it would help both problems, 2) took Zyrtec generic, 3) used an OTC eye allergy drop 4) hot compresses and last 5) became a Netti pot user. I also waited until the pred took effect and the eyes and pain went away. By the way, the pred worked great for my sinuses but did zilch for my battered rotator cuff:(

I really felt that neither the doc nor the sleep technicians were much help with helping figure it all out or coaching me thru the good and the bad. I did find this site which has given me a lot of resources and support.

Currently, my eyes are much better - I still use the drops some ( mine is not from air leakage it's my overly sensitive eyes) and if they really bother me I use an eye ointment with hydrocortisone. It's Rx only.

So I hope the compresses help. It might also help to use OTC allergy meds such as Zyrtec or genetic for awhile. And back off on using the unit if you are in pain.

Oh, I almost forgot... One if the techs started me off at a higher humidity level than the second tech felt was good. It's currently set at 2.
Trish, I do not have your problem, but hear from others who have.  Can you see an opthamologist?  There is a procedure they can do to block the  lacrimal ducts which may help.    .  Good  luck and keep us posted.
Hi Trish, Hydration in you and the machine are helpfull ( crank it up). What are you cleaning your mask with? Do you have an allergy covering for your pillow? Good Sleep,Chris
Thanks Chris, I think I am doing all the right things regarding cleaning mask and allergy protection. I have a humidifier and have upped it to 5 and there is a little improvement. I must start rehydrating myself by drinking more water Regards Trish
Dear Mary, Thank you for your suggestion re Lacrimal ducts, that is certainly something I will follow through. My situation is I feel a little more complicated than most. I have had a tumor that had spread into all my nasal cavaties removed(fortunately benign), also had a full ear drum reconstrution some years ago. I also have recently had a perforated ear drum. I know I need some serious investigation. What worries me is that I will be told I cannot continue with the CPAP and this to me would be disastrous,as it has given me my life back (if it wasn't for the eye complication) Regards, Trish
Hi Dianne, Thank you for your advice. At this early stage of treatment for me I am open to all suggestions. I know I have a long road ahead to get on top of all my Associated problems. Regards, Trish
Is it possible that your mask is leaking into your eyes? This would or could cause these problems.
