Usually "life" of mask cushions
It seems to me the cushion on my Quattro FX (or maybe it's the spring "thing" ) do not do well after one month. I keep them clean etc. My insurance will only pay for one every 3 months so I will have to purchase myself. Have found 2 earlier on EBAY (unused) and will have to keep on looking. Do these cushions last longer for others???

Sorry, didn't mean to upset anyone, but there may be the need to pass information between Ginny, myself and the rep, specific to Ginny that she may not want made public. General information will certainly be passed along, and how all interested can benefit. Even though this is a public forum, and a very important one, I would not risk exposing anyone's personal details through that forum. That is each individual's right, exclusively. Just for an example, many people use a screen name instead of their real name because they want a little, or more, privacy.
This particular issue has a lot of interest, and so far, has raised more questions than answers. Many more people may be involved before a good answer is found.

Hi Rock, I contacted CPAP>COM and the manufacturer. For the Quattro FX the smallest size is small. When I tried the Mirage Quattro I had the petite. On that one the first thingt he RT said was, "this is still large for you". The Quattro FX if just had a little smaller mask would be fine. I slept last night, again, waking only once inthe middle of the night but still have leaking in eyes and occasional a little on edges.

Steven XXXX, why don't you contact the manufacturers rep, if you consider that "public" opinion, and let us know what they say? Or were you just going to leave that job for someone else?
The person asked what other people on the forum thought about their mask cushion longevity, not the manufacturers recommendation.

I understand that any "private" information should never be public & I didn't intend to suggest that it should be. If I did not make that obvious then that is my fault & not yours.
Your statement that "General information will certainly be passed along" is really what I was asking for.

I've had good luck cleaning my masks with pure castile liquid soap made from organic plant oils which retain their natural glycerin (according to the label). I've used CPAP for 1.5 years now, and can't say any of my nasal pillows have worn out. I have used a single mask pillows for six + months and replace with a few new ones, maybe 3 or 4, since they say you should replace them, but they all still work fine. I wash the nasal pillows once a day, and use a cotton q-tip to dry the crevices.
I tend to have oily skin, so I use the same soap on my face each night, which removes makeup and skin oils and sebacious fluid very well without drying the skin. My mask pillows can feel quite oily by morning, but the quick wash with warm water and a little castile soap does the job. I use a blend of peppermint and tea tree infused soap. The tea tree oil is naturally anti- bacterial and anti-fungal; the peppermint just has a nice fresh scent to breathe, though barely noticeable. The western USA where I live has rather "hard" water (more minerals) which would make using water alone likely to leave a residue. I use the same soap to wash my hoses and the rest of the mask, but less often. I haven't had any hose leaks either. I think it is more complicated with nasal masks or full face masks which have "seals" that touch more skin area, but the castile soap would still clean it well, I believe. It is just harder to dry them well in all the nooks and crannies. That is one reason I like the nasal pillows - easy to clean!
Maybe the nasal pillow plastic or silicone is different from the thinner, membrane like, soft, clear shiny plastic used for the seal on the larger masks. This might not hold up as long. I liked using the cpap wipes on one of these I tried, as it worked best to keep the shiny clear look of the plastic.
It certainly is an investment, of time and money for accessories to maintain this therapy, though worth it once you figure out your best combination and routine.

I did not read 'all' the reply's to your question, but did you notice the one from Steve?
He said his insurance replaced the cushsions "2 per month", as they follow medicare guidelines.
That is for nasal style, but the Full Face medicare replaces the cushsion MONTHLY.
Well that is what most insurance providers follow, as medicare is considered the standard to meet.
And the Mask Frame that the cushsion attaches to is replacable on a 3 month schedule, and the headgear is 6 months.
I have worked a lot with the Quattro Fx cushsion's. It seems to be one of that needs to be replaced more often.
Have you tried a Res Med Mirage Quattro?? It does come in extra small, and I personally found it to be way more comfortable than the Quattro FX.
The cleaning suggestions, and maybe the mask liners too...also sound like very good suggestions.
But that Quattro FX than you had asked about....seems to be more Flimsy, than any of the other cushsions on the market. At least from Res Mes, Respironics, and Fisher & Paykel.

I need to speak to myDME company again (or my insurance) The DME will "give" me a complete new mask every 3 months, which I don't think is needed. They said if I don't get that then one cushion every 3 months. That does not sound right to me.

Ginny: What insurance do you have? They should be able to tell you what the schedule is for replacing it, perhaps from you benefits dept.
If you are using the nasal pillows, that should be two per month- but those seem to hold up much better than that Quattro FX mask.

Will call my DME Monday, if no satisfaction there then benefits at Insurance company. I new Medicare coverage ( I am a nurse) so I did not think what they (DME) told me was accurate. I actually bought some parts on Ebay. (new & in package)

You should be able to get the insert every month.....I found this out after 5 years of struggling with leakage especially around the end of the 3 months. What a difference!
