I have had my setup now for over a month. My first week was very nice and I felt much better. -But - now, I have taken to removing my mask on a nightly basis. So, I'm not getting the benefit of my machine. I have the nasal mask as I don't want the whole shootin' match over my mouth and nose. I have my humidity level set at 4. My tube actually heats as well! I want this to work!!! Anyone have any idea's ?!?!?!?

Henri, some people tape part of the mask to their face- just enough that it wakes you up when you pull it off.

I'll tell you what worked for me.  I got rid of the Mirage FX  nasal mask, because it was leaking constantly and keeping me awake.  I got the new MIrage Swift II nasal pillows (the original first generation Swift drove me nuts because the pillows were "stretching" my nostrils and making them hurt and the face straps were leaving awful marks by morning..  I hardly even know I am wearing the new one, it is so comfortable.  I am using  the machine up to six hours a night now, up from 1-2 the first couple of weeks.

Here is a link for the new mask:

Try using SleepWeaver Soft CLoth CPAP Mask. Ask your DME for one.
I have had many people who have done this.  It is usually that you need to change masks.  It may not be that you need to change to a full face mask but it may be that the mask you do have is uncomfortable on part of yoru face or if you roll onto your side.  That is why there are so many masks on the market.  It might also be that you are applying the mask too tight.  and so again it is uncomfortable.  I would ask your physician for an order to be refitted with a different mask ( if it had been more than 30 days then you will need an order otherwise they may refit you without one)
Do you know why you are removing it? Is it leaking, uncomfortable, or too much moisture? I have my moisture at 2 most of the time. If it's the fit of the mask go to the discussion on mask fitting. The points really help.

Ninety-five percent of CPAP success is finding the right mask.  I was lucky to find mine on the second try, well within the 30 days DMEs are typically obligated to provide choices.

If you have no mouth breathing issues, I suggest you try a nasal pillows mask, as they have the least contact with the face and minimize the enclosed feeling of nasal masks and the associated sweating which bothered me (and made me want to rip it off).  Also, if you live in the Northern Hemisphere, I suggest that you turn off your humidifier and heated hose in summer weather, as, IMHO, the heat and humidity can make the whole CPAP experience uncomfortable in warm weather.  By all means, crank it up when it gets cold.

I advise you to spend the money to find the right mask.  A number of on-line merchants will allow exchanges for a fee, which may be well worth it in your case.  Even after you find your perfect mask, it's worth trying a new one every year or so because better masks come to the market regularly.  Nevertheless, I've been using the same one for 11 years.  Nothing else seems to work as well for me.

i

t may be the machine that is not working. I tried many many masks over a period of 8 years  with only about 2 or 3 hours of therapy a night. The machine I have now is  on lone because  my old one was not working. It works like night and day. I get 6 hours now. It wasn't the mask. It was the machine all this time! Try a newer machine. I was on the road to a treacheostomy and I was saved by this machine.

Get back on the mask, sleep apnea doesn't go away like the common cold.
If you are in air conditioning keep the humidity at four so you benefit from the heat otherwise you could end up with cold's in your nasal cavity. I did. Took a while but I realized that drafts, heating vents and not keeping the CPAP unit lower than the bed level make a difference. I have a stool and keep it on that and plug mine in. I have a magnetic vent cover over my vent so I do not get AC on the tubing. You will be surprised how many times you will take it off but get as much time ON it as you can when you fall asleep. Read the book. Use online chat support. Don't give up. And if you have a sleeping partner, they will not hear you snoring anymore. A Win Win situation. (Keep it clean too.
