I have medical insurance through my employer with Kaiser, but it does not have coverage for durable medical equipment = DME
I do not qualify for Medicare or Medical, I need to purchase this part of the insurance coverage through someone else...........The problem is that I can not find any information on how to get this coverage only...purchasing it. Can anyone help me?
I know Kaiser covers DME for some people on this or other forums. Perhaps you could ask them about purchasing this part of the insurance separately. If you have to go out of pocket there are several ways to buy a used machine- cpapauction is one, secondwind is the other (of course there are the classifides and craigs list, too). The prices are pretty reasonable and it might even be less expensive than buying separate coverage. I don't know of anyone who offers DME coverage only. I would have to get on the telephone and start calling insurance providers. I hope someone has an answer to your question. You could also call local DME's and ask them. I don't know if you will have "pre-existing condition" issues with insurance.
Gotta love Kaiser. I can't refer anyone to a specific DMEs, and they own hospitals. Kaiser is proof that the insurance companies operate above the laws.
By the time you figure your premium (if you can even get this portion of insurance), the deductible, and the copays you would probably be better off just purchasing out of pocket.
I have picked up a couple of nice machine from www.cpapauction.com with very low hours. You will need a script on file.
