I just had the sleep test in Gainesville, Virginia. The technician handed me the polysomnogram report of 2 pages + small basic graph of the hours of sleep I had.  My concern is that the report was given to me 1day after I took the overnight sleep test. Isn't this really fast? My other concern is that the doctor's name that is printed on the bottom of the report is also listed on the web with approximately 30 other locations throughout Virginia and Maryland.  Third, the report is to go to my regular family physician (who knows little about sleep disorders). I slept over a 2nd night, told the tech I was a mouth breather, and he gave me a nose "mask" to try out for the night. After trying it out, am concerned I'm going to lose sleep by breathing through my mouth and having problems with the nose "mask."  I'm left with a diagnosis of severe sleep apnea and don't know what to do next.  I tried to look on the web to see if the Commonwealth Sleep Center that I went to in Gainesville, Virginia is accredited.  Can't find if it is accredited or not.

Can anyone please help me?

That sounds fishy.  You should be under the care of a doctor at the Sleep Center.  He orders the sleep study, the technician performs the test.  I can't remember how long it took to get my results, well the printouts anyway, but it doesn't seem like it was long.  Then I had to go BACK to the Sleep doctor at the Sleep Center and he went over my results with me.  They should NOT have stuck you with a nose mask.  If you are a mouth breather you need a full face mask.  That having been said, DO NOT GIVE UP.  You might check with your insurance provider or even the Better Business Bureau to see the status of the clinic you used.  Family Physicians have not been trained to handle sleep apnea cases.  You need a proper sleep doctor, one who doesn't herd you through like cattle and listens to your needs.  If I can help, feel free to message me.

Good luck to you,

Allison
