Hello. I am new to using the CPAP machiene and am getting very fustrated. I have been using it for about 6 weeks and am going to sleep at about 10 pm and waking up at about 4 am, taking the mask off and going back to sleep. Don't know why I am doing this but still feel no changes since starting this process. i am ready to give up on this. ANy advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

What brand and model CPAP are you using, Michelle? What is the name of the mask you are using? Did you keep the literature that came w/your mask?

Have you gone back to your local DME supplier's RT for help w/this and any other problems you may be having w/CPAP therapy? That's what they are there for and what your insurance is paying them for. Have you contacted your sleep doctor about the problem(s) you are having. They can't help you solve a problem they don't know you are having. At least give them a chance to "earn their keep".

Can you be a little more explicit about why you may be taking your mask off? We can probably help if you give us some idea of what is going on. Any sore spots? Leaks blowing in your eyes? Or are you not aware of any problems and just wake up to find your mask off?
Michelle, you're off to a great start, so don't give up! Most people aren't able to tolerate CPAP for the full night at first -- it takes some time to get used to. And you're already using it 6 hours a night -- terrific, and better than most newbies.

If you tell us what specific type of mask and machine you're using, we can help you out better. Please let us know.

I am using a Res Med S8 Series II with a humidifier set to 4 and the CPAP set to 15. The mask is a comfort gel mask in size petite. The small mask was too big and went into the corners of my eyes. I am waking up with the mask off. I only know what time it is because am constantly waking up briefly during the night to check the time. Must be a subconsious thing. I have no air leaking out that I am aware of and the machiene is set to ramping from 5 to 15 in 25 minutes. I am awaking with a dry throat. Should I turn up the humidifier? The pulmonoligist is aware of this and said to keep trying to get throught the night and come back in 1 month and we will discuss the situation then. Do I just need to give it more time? Thanks for your support.
the dry throat is a sign that you are, in fact, leaking out of your mouth. all that air rushing out of your mouth will dry out your throat and means you're not getting the proper benefit of the therapy. all that leaking/mouth dryness is probably making you swat the mask off during the night. one reason people mouth breathe is that they're having trouble breathing through the nose. are you at all congested/have sinus problems? if so, you might treat those, and then see if you still wake up with the mask off. let us know.
