I recently had a sleep apnea test done about two months ago. The hospital, who was my preferred provider, sent me to a medical equipment place where I got my machine and mask. Little did I know that this was not a preferred provider. I just got the bill in the mail today and it is unbelieveable. In addition, I asked the medical equipment provider why they rented the machine to you for two months and then sold it to you after that. Wow. Beware if you are new to this--it can mean lots and lots of difference in money.

Have you had your equipment more than 30 days? So far as I know you can return the CPAP, are probably stuck w/the humidifier, mask and hose. You may even get lucky and they will take the humidifier back as well.
You can then call your insurance to ask what local DME CPAP providers they are contracted with. Then shop those provider options to find one that you are comfortable with and will provide you w/a CPAP compatible w/the humidifier if you've been stuck with having to keep it.
Most insurances pay for CPAP via rent to own 3 to 13 months but pay up front for the accessories such as humidifier, mask, hose, etc.
You almost always get the spiel that it is up to you to know what your insurance covers - but - your sleep lab gave you no choice of providers, just sent your equipment order to this one which gives you a good out. AND my theory is - and I've gotten away w/o paying a couple of times - that if they want payment it is up to them to determine whether they are contracted w/my insurance or not before providing services or equipment. A lot depends on how determined and firm you are in dealing w/them.
