Ernestine, is insomnia the worst of your problems, or the presumed sleep apnea?  What symptoms ar you having?

Post all of your symptoms here and we may be able to help prepare you for a consultation with a doctor. I looked at one of your earlier posts and if it is accurate, you need a consultation with a sleep doctor - you need an evaluation and diagnosis before a treatment path is chosen.

i do not know if i have sleep apena , i do know that i have a sleep problem, i cannot fall asleep for hours even after taking a ambein sleep aid, even when i do fall asleep i dream  and it seems so real i wake up and am afraid to go back to sleep so i try to stay awake. i don't go into a deep sleep much at all so i don't get much sleep. have not been to a sleep clinic to have a sleep study done. i had a brother that had it so bad he almost died from it. he was rushed to the hospital and they called the family in saying he would not make it thru the night but he did that time , the next time he was not so lucky , he did not make it thru the night that time. i just will lay in bed for hours sometimes til 3 or 4 am before i fall asleep and am awake at daylight, some nights i do not sleep but an hour even with that i dream those crazy scary dreams even after taking the sleep aid. would love to get a good nights sleep , been years since i have got a good nights sleep

i lay for hours trying to fall asleep, by 3 or 4 am i finally fall asleep and wake up around 6:30 am and most nights i dream very vivid dreams when i do fall asleep so i do not get a restful sleep. finally got my doctor to prescribe ambien but that has wore off so no help there. that is mostly my nights, do not get much sleep and am unable to fall asleep during the day either , tried laying down to take a nap during the day but even then i cannot fall asleep so get about 2 1/2 hours sleep a night on a good night.  we have a sleep lab in our area but no sleep specialist, would have to go about 40 miles to see one here.

i am a diabetic and have high blood pressure which most days i walk on the treadmill to help with that.

the closest sleep specialist to us is about 40 miles at least , live in a small town but i do agree with you about seeing a sleep specialist before i go to have a sleep sstudy or any kind of treatment done.  had a brother with sleep apena and it got very serious so i know this condition is not to play with.

thanks for this and will keep posting and would appreciate your help with guiding me thru this.

Internet forums can often be very helpful to a person who has a diagnosis and treatment plan from a doctor. They are often very poor for making a diagnosis.

With the very bad symptoms you describe, why you are hesitant to go 40 miles for a consultation? It could make a big improvement in your life.

to be honest i do not know, i have got a email address from the sleep foundation to see if they could help me find a sleep specialist , will keep you posted

You should start writing down a list of symptoms to take to the doctor's visit. It is so easy to leave the appointment and then think of something you wanted to mention.

You should look for an accredited sleep center.

Here are some possibilities:

http://www.sleepcenters.org/CenterSearch.aspx?Zip=27215&Address...

http://www.sleepcenters.org/CentersInfo.aspx?Center_ID=226740

Ask them to verify their accreditation.

we have a sleep center here close to us but they do not have a sleep specilaist there and i do not want to have a sleep study done without seeing a sleep specialist so i have emailed the sleep foundation and asked them to send me a list of sleep specialist close to where i live.

that is a good idea about the writing down the symptoms  and thanks for sending the website. will check them out and see where it leads me

have emailed the sleep center in Burlington, NC and asked them if they have a sleep specilaist onsite and if so i would like to set up an appointment with one. they are accredited by the AASM. waiting to hear from them on if they have a sleep doctor onsite and setting up the appointment.

do you have sleep apena ?      hope you do not mind me asking

do you have sleep apena ?

When I had my first sleep study I asked the technician in the morning if I had apneas during the night. Her answer was, "Oh boy, did you ever!"

This was excellence news to me. Eight @#$%^&$ doctors had told me I could not have sleep apnea because I was too slim and athletic! News that I indeed did have sleep apnea meant I could be treated and pull that one foot out of the grave.

I think you are on the right track now! Let us know how things proceed.
