Are they as accurate as the overnight sleep study at a lab? I think I'm going to have to get a test done.

My understanding is that they are plenty accurate for diagnosing garden-variety obstructive sleep apnea, but won't screen you for all the other sleep disorders and other health problems that a full-blown in lab sleep study will. I'm sure others in the community will have other perspectives on this.
So I did the home test, but I found out from the home test provider that it failed. I have no idea what went wrong. It seems really complicated. I'm kind of frustrated now, and my sleep apnea is probably minor. Not sure what I'm going to do. They gave me a different home test device, so maybe I'll try that.
We've heard similar stories from others about home tests. They sound promising in theory, but in practice often seem to be too complicated for people to deal with. Why not go for the sleep lab full-blown test? It's the gold standard of reliability and in your case, if you have a minor case of sleep apnea (and there's no way for you to know that without being tested), it might be more important since we're heard doctors warn that home tests don't always pick up on the mildest symptoms.
What kind of home test did you have? Did you have the one where you had some sensors hooked to you or was it just a trial with an apap set at the lower pressure with a range of pressures? I have heard it being done both ways.

In my opinion, unless cost was deciding factor, I would have the sleep study done in a lab so it could monitor other aspects of my sleep as well.
i went in to do the overnight sleep study. should have results soon. i'll let you know when i have them, and what it says.
I think you made a wise decision to have the in-lab overnight sleep evaluation, Eliza. If I were you I would ask for a copy of the full scored data summary report w/condensed graphs as well as the doctor's dictated results. They are a part of your medical records and in the USA you have a legal right t copies under HIPAA.
