I guess I'm still digesting everything my sleep dr told me. Some pittingon my right ankle, and issues with right side of my heart. Having another sleep study on the 28th to get an ASV machine. WOW!!…Continue

Have been diagnosed with severe central and obstructive apnea. still waiting for my machine. Should be here by tomorrow, so I don't know what it will be yet. Big run around with the sleep center and the machine provider. I had 94 episodes per hour during the first sleep study. Second study showed 34 per hour. "ASV was near the end of study without clear benefit observed with settings although limited time and likely insufficient EPAP applied to eliminate upper airway resistance and correct hypoxia"
Guess I will just have to see what they order.
Thanks so much.
Nancy, trazadone is an antidepressant, but is also used sometimes as a sleep aid. I've used it and it worked pretty well for me. Is it not working for you? This will probably be just for the short term to help you sleep. One of the OTC sleep meds you can take is benadryl, an antihistamine. The effects of benadryl on sleep apnea are unknown. If the trazadone is not working and you don't want to try the benadryl talk to your PA ans seee what else is recommended. Hang in there, things should be getting better gradually.
Keep me posted, please.
Nancy, that is a high pressure and I'm sure it's hard to sleep with. You might need an ASV machine. It's a whole new form of therapy that keeps your tidal volumn above a certain limit. I don't know how easy it is to use. Keep us posted
Nancy, good luck with your machine, keep us posted on what you get and how you're doing.

Nancy, as a member of The SleepGuide Crew I would like to welcome you to SleepGuide. When you say you don't know if you're using any treatment I don't know if you mean you don't know what machine it is, or something else. If we can be of any help, please post a new discussion asking any questions, or making any comments you have. You never know when your post will help someone else.
The forum consists of people who have yet to be diagnosed or treated, the newbie to CPAP or OSA, those who have been on the machine for many years, and Sleep Professionals. I have been using CPAP for 3 1/2 years. We discuss other forms of treatment from no treatment and positional therapy, Provent, dental devices, and the new implant under study.
The "What's on Your MInd Feature" is for a quick rant or comment for which you do not desire feedback.
If I can be of help don't hesitate to contact me.
Mary Z.
