Wow! What a great story. I am going through this with my 6 year old daughter. She had her tonsils taken out right after school ended for the summer. She doesn't start school until after Labor Day, but I'm anxious and nervous to see the results. Her…
Oh, this is such a sad story and it hits me hard. My father had sleep apnea. He was obese and he died of a heart attack in his sleep. He was 47, so my brother and I were both in college already. I can't imagine what you are going through without him…
Use whatever kind of mask works best for your comfort. There is nothing wrong with using a full-face mask, if that works OK for you. Don't worry about ResMed's HI and AHI numbers as long as they are below 15 (but preferably below 10). The main thing…
Sometimes if a full face mask is on to tight it can cause your jaw to slide backwards and your throat to start to shut or obstruct. The mask should be just tight enough to seal , but not so tight that it leaves marks. Try lying down before you put y…
I knew my husband needed to be tested for years. I finally convinced him and at the same time, my mother told me that my father's depression was helped when he went on CPAP. I have depression and fatigue, so I decided to get tested at the same time.…
I'm not feeling better yet. Well, not consistently. I was able to get up this morning, but was back in bed an hour later.
My insurance covers a new mask every 3 months and I passed the ten day mark to return this one. Maybe if I asked, I don't reall…
Dispite the numbers for now, are you feeling better at all? Why will your supplier not allow you to switch back? What are your machine settings? Are you looking at this data on a download from the rescan software on your computer? Gerry
Elaine,
What machine are you using? I am wondering if it might have something to do with the mask setup with the machine. I know with my Resmed S8 (s), you need to enter the mask type (i.e; FF, nasal, etc.) you are using so the unit can auto adjust…
There are a number of possibilities. If you have a ResMed device, it wants to know what type of mask you are using, so it can calculate the numbers a little differently. Some people feel that when you switch from a nasal to a Full Face Mask, you sho…
honest, i'm stumped by that question. i don't know why a switch to a full face mask would cause an increase in # of hypopneas. perhaps someone wiser than i will know the answer to that very good question...

No worries, Elaine. We should feature this more prominently somewhere. You can find some of that info in the New Users group, or the Collective Wisdom Group, or under the FAQ tab in the top nav. But I'm happy to explain:
AHI - Apnea Hypopnea Index…
Elaine, would that be SoundASleep sleep lab in Medical Arts 2?? I understand they use Resmed equipment for their PSG titrations. I've been thinking of going there the next time a titration is recommended for me simply because they do use Resmed equi…
Hi Elaine, I'm near Saginaw. Saginaw has a pretty good local apnea support group at Covenant Healthcare's Mackinaw campus, corner of Mackinas and Tittabawasee, not far from Fashion Square Mall. They are held from 6 PM to 8 PM. I think the next one is in June. I can't find my notes right now. If you might be interested let me know. Were you Dx'd w/apnea at Bay Medical?? My daughter works at PowerTrain in Bay City and I occasinally drive over and meet her for lunch at Wanigan's or Souper Cafe or Old City Hall and then go to the main library or court house for some genealogy research.

Yup, if you've got insurance, your insurance dictates which local DME providers you can use.
Just because you bought your CPAP elsewhere does NOT mean that your insurance contracted providers can't or won't provide your masks and other accessories.…
Hi Candace,
Apria is giving me a payment plan for 10 months, after that I will buy it if I still need it. In the mean time, all of the folks here are so helpful they told me the best cpap to get and low and behold, Apria did not give me a newer mode…
Linda, I read your question re: CPAP Machine and Apria. I also am not impressed with them. I have Kaiser and Kaiser will not pay for my equipment. Apria says that I have to pay all costs up front. Are you on a payment plan with Apria. I have severe…
First, let me say, Thank you for going to bat for us. I think you are doing a fantastic job in spreading OSA awareness and providing us with OSA a place to go for support. Apparently there is no connection between a college degree and intelligence,…
You hit the nail on the head. I had a similar experience last year with another organization, The Alzheimer's Association. I ask for permission to pass out a flyer, "Does Sleep Apnea Cause Alzheimer's Disease?," at one of their annual meetings regar…

I believe that individuals should be free to make decisions for themselves. This goes for the patients and the providers. The patient is free to decide what to do and who to pay for what services. The provider is free to decide what services he offe…

I agree with your advice,Mike.Once I was treated for a sinus infection,I had replaced everything .Also, it is a good idea to use saline to cleanse the sinuses at least twice daily . You may look into the use of a Nettie Pot,,,,that can throughly cle…
I tried wearing a band aid on the bridge of my nose the other night and it helped, but not enough. Most of the "solutions' that I've found end up causing to much air to leak. I started wearing the bandana (folded in several layers and tied like a he…
I've beeb using Sleep Strip for years. It's a good screening test that correlates pretty well with formal sleep studies. It won't give you a number, but rather ranges from none, to mild, moderate or severe. You still need a doctor's prescription. Ty…
