Sleep Apnea Forum Bringing Power to the Patient

Oh my gosh, people!  The new Swift FX is fabulous!  I tried it last night.  The pillows are so soft--this might put Ro Ez It out of business.  I can't wear pillows at all because they irritate my nostrils way too much, and usually I can't keep the headgear on.  The Swift FX is totally different.  The only problem I had was I couldn't adjust the top of the headgear enough to keep the pillows in.  I guess my head and face are too small--ResMed just needs to add a couple more notches.

I just wanted to let you all know that this mask might be a great solution to some of the problems some of you have with pillows or masks in general!

I'm so envious. I have to get hold of a Swift FX and a ResMed S9. Oh, and a patient version of the PR System One Software. Then I'll be a happy camper.

I got to try this mask out last night. it is amazing. Very light weight and unobtrusive. This mask is going to change the nasal pillow market.

I'm using the swift for women right now. Is anyone able to compare the two?

The FX is so much more comfortable than the Swift LT. It's much softer, and very easy to adjust. The frame that falls across the face is very soft, rubbery plastic--not rigid like the LT. And, the small tubing attached at the nose piece is "springy" like a slinky--so less drag on the pillows! Better fit!

I am looking at this mask closely, considering I will probably be changing from my simple CPAP soon to an Auto SV type unit, and am concerned as to my current mask holding up to the variable pressures. Currently using the Swift LT for Her, successfully, I would prefer to stick with a nasal pillow type mask if possible, as I have a very sensitive nose bridge and had some difficulty using the full face type mask in my first sleep study. I think I read in the mask literature, or somewhere (?) that this new mask works with the ASV paps. I may request to try this one, especially if the LT has problems. The xPAP change will probably take another month or two since I will probably have to go for another titration PSG for that.

Are you being switched to an autotitrating unit or a servo-ventilator unit for complex apnea? If it is a servo-ventilator, you will have to use a full face mask.

Type of unit is still being worked out, not sure yet. It is for the central component of my complex apnea diagnosis. If I don't get the servo ventilator right away, I expect I will eventually, as it was suggested by the original Sleep Doc that evaluated my PSGs. The docs are still consulting about this. I'm not looking forward to having to use the other types of masks, but I sure want this therapy to work. I also thought maybe the one that Mike's wife liked could be an option, the one with the gel like seal. I'll have to look it up again for the proper name. Do I worry too much about the future ?- Ha! I'll have to wait and see.

This mask looks interesting and I would love to try it, but will probably wait awhile for more reviews on it.

Melinda can you explain to us why a FFM has to be used fro servo ventilators?

I don't know--that's what the RT/Salesman from ResMed told us. We were taught that if the patient wants to use a pillows style it could be the Liberty because it is a FFM. I'm not an RT, so I'm just going by what I was taught.

Remember take what the sales rep tells you as "maybe" fact. Like anything else, there are good reps and then there are those that are so so that may not know all the facts.

Maybe someone that is on one of these specialized machines will fill us in with more detail about the mask issue.

Yup, if you've got insurance, your insurance dictates which local DME providers you can use. Just because you bought your CPAP elsewhere does NOT mean that your insurance contracted providers can't or won't provide your masks and other accessories.…
