Small Nose CPAP Mask -- Kidsta

Never used the kidsta, but most of the mask companies make petites. I have had some very good luck with my female pts using these tiny masks. I am very fond of the Respironics Comfort Gel Nasal Petite.

Will try the comfort gel petite. Heard that the gel smells ?

I have used the Kidsta with some of my patients. It is a nice small size, but the headgear is also made for a smaller head. If she is having trouble with the mask not staying in place because her nose is small, the Kidsta headgear is good for keeping the mask in place.

My first suggestion though would be to try the Mirage Micro in a small. It's pretty small and stays in place very well on a majority of the patients I see. The Comfort Gel in a petite is good too, but harder to keep sealed because of it's bulkiness.

Will the larger Resmed headgear fit it?

Yes--you can swap out the kid size headgear for the adult. The mask assembly and headgear for both masks fit all cushion sizes.

I have had some very good luck with the petites you mentioned with my female pts. I was wondering about the kidsta for down syndrome pts.I have had quite a few problems with leaks with these pts as most masks won't seal properly on them. I think that due to their small features this mask may work. I am going to see if we can get a few in. Thanks Melinda

It's interesting that you mention fitting Down's kids. The most recent patient I fit with a Kidsta was an Asian woman with a wide flat nose. She is very hard to fit too, I would think similarly to a Down's patient. She has used a small Profile Lite, Petite ComfortGel, and small Micro. But she has had the best luck with the Kidsta cushion and adult headgear. Good luck!

You know, I had seriously considered the Kidsta when it first came out - but - el cheapo that I am I hated to waste an insurance mask purchase on a mask that I had NO IDEA of size of mask or headgear and whether any headgear I had on hand could be used w/it.

I got lucky tho when I tried the ComfortLite 2 and eventually tried the CL2's simple nasal cushion. It was the CL2's simple nasal cushion that put me on to trying the Respironics Simplicity simple nasal cushion. LIGHT WEIGHT, the cushion isn't designed to ride up on or to the bridge of the nose but rather a bit down from the bridge. I LOVE it. The OptiLite has that nasal cradle cushion that also fits below the bridge of the nose, almost just the tip of the nose. These two might be worth considering.

Not sure if this mask would work for down's pts as most of mine have been mouth breathers due to their small nasal cavities.
