Neil posted this, and wanted to get some feedback from ResMed users:

"Is there any way i can get a memory stick thing for my ResMed to record my own data and upload it onto my own PC?

Thanks

Neil"

No, at least at this point in time, Resmed has made no provisions for flash drive transfer of data. One must use the smart card in the Resmed xPAP, then a proprietary cable reader to your computer and ResScan 3.7 software.

Resmed has also discontinued the S8 ResLink that allowed for the use of a Nonin (Embla) XPod and finger sensor for 02 saturation and heart rate data.

They have developed ResTraxx, a device that attaches to your Resmed xPAP that provides wireless data to an online data base (I don't know much about it). So far I only know of one person, I believe in this forum, whose local DME supplier has provided him w/a ResTraxx. The little I've been able to read about ResTraxx at Resmed's website, the data is limited to compliance data and leak rate.

In addition, not all Resmed xPAPs are fully data capable. For instance, the Resmed S8 Compact and Resmed S8 Escape II are NOT fully data capable. Which model Resmed do you have? If it is not fully data capable and you've had it 30 days or less you can still try to exchange it for a fully data capable such as the Resmed S8 Elite II w/EPR, etc.
Neil,
Welcome to the world of proprietary information.

Resmed, like every other major corporation is engaged in the business of making money. One of their ways is to make the accessory devices to which attach to their machines, whether it is data or tubing, in such a manor so as to bring you back to their product line. The format of their proprietary data card is such, that even if you find a 3rd party card manufacture, it will not function in the units or with the software.

If it wasn't this way, you would run to Wal-Mart and buy a $5.00 thumb drive and Resmed would have made nothing.

Resmed's data card reader is available at about 60% savings at ebay, but you have to make a card tray (an easy make) to properly position the data card in the reader.
There's also the option of using ResMed's Serial or USB adapters which attach to the back of the XPAP (by removing the slotted port cover) and allow you to directly connect to your PC, bypassing the card completely. If you have a VPAPAuto25, you actually get an extra day's worth of detailed information using this method instead of the ResScan card.
Hi Daniel,

Can you please elaborate or provide extact steps to access data using Serial or USB adapters bypassing the card completely? I've just received brand new VPAPAuto25. I'd appreciate it. Please elaborate on what USB/Serial adapter you refer to (name, brand/model and where to get it). My sleep tech said that they also use no name brand smart card reader to download data from ResMedsmart card. I need to find out where to get such reader. Thanks in advance.

The adaptor that attaches directly to the back of the machine is very easy to use. If you buy one you will receive directions.
Essentially turn your machine off, remove the slotted card cover on the machine and pushing the round button down on the adaptor, slide it over the male connector, connect USB connector to computer. Open up your software (I have seen it fairly inexpensively on eBay) and turn your vpap back on. From there it's intuitive- pick or add a patient and then download your data. Play with the data options. Have fun!

Dan, would you please elaborate on the specific data card needed and the details on making the card tray.
Yhanks, Mary Z.
