re-posting this question on behalf of Robert Cooper: I had a sleep study done over a year ago which I am today going to get my records for that for more info for you all, I did use my machine religiously for 6 months, all with BAD side effects, 1st I was still very fatigued, woke up each day stomach distened and gas for hours, eyes swollen and tearing for hours, I have used or tried 6 different mask from nose to full face all with same outcome.
I now went to another doctor which gave me ANOTHER sleep study WHY I ASK MYSELF, but did so 2 nights ago, this is at UPMC sleep lung center so I THOUGHT it would be good and this time it was a BiPaP study!
Got to bed around 10pm did fall asleep awoke about 2am cause mouth was WIDE OPEN and dried out tongue dry lips dry, and there was a humidifier working or not i do not know, well a few other times during that sleep I woke up cause of mask noise leaking and tightened each time, I rang the bell at 2am tech come in, I ask how did it look on your end he said I slept rem for about 1 hour and all was fine I said bullshit, I was lying here with pressure so much it forced open my mouth and kept it open he said he saw no high pressures SO HE SAID! SO I QUIT and went home, he said there was enough done to have a study and I felt I would not gain anything in 2 more hours!
NOW I AM BACK TO MY CPAP MACHINE AND ALL THE PROBLEMS DESCRIBED ABOVE WHAT DO I DO FOR RELIEF HERE FOLKS.
CAN I GET MINE TO WORK FOR ME, it seems sometime during the night when and obstruction happens it deverts the air from my lungs to my stomach, JUST A GUESS ON MY PART, but I do not feel any better even after 6 months!
BUT I DO HAVE SLEEP APNEA, had a blood gas test thye other day and PO2 was 64% so that shows I am deprived?????????????????????????????

Your mouth can drop open even with low pressures. I do not know what you are considering high pressure, can you give us an estimate?

What machine are you using at home? What is the exact name? What type of mask are you currently trying?

If you are using nasal pillows or nasal mask are you ensuring that your mouth doesn't open? How?

With some more info we can probably help you more.
It sounds like you were getting anouther sleep study because the Doctor wanted to see how you would respond to Bi- Level. This would require a titration (SETTING THE PRESSURE, While you Sleep) You can't just give someone a machine and say call me in the morning. Most machines go from 4-20, and in your case two pressures needed to be found. A inhailation and a exhailation. So there's a lot of combos to try. The technician was not just telling you random bullshit I am sure he was telling you the truth. It takes a while to get someone who has APNEA to breathe while he sleeps. The reason the Doctor was trying Bi-Level was because what you described is a problem some patients have with not exhailing while on CPAP. Your stomach etc, etc,...What you don't know is what you do while you sleep.....The technician does, You don't. I am a technician I get a patient like you a few times a year, we just want to help.
If you had a blood gas the other day WHAT reading was the 64%??? ABGs measure several things, which was 64%?? Do you have a lung or breathing problem such as asthma or COPD, etc.?? ABGs are NOT something that doctors order lightly since they CAN be quite uncomfortable and many patients object to them. So, I"m quite curious WHY your doctor would order an ABG as well as what reading was 64%.
