If Machine Being Used, What Type? (e.g., Respironics M Series with A-Flex Auto-Adjusting CPAP)
I use night time oxygen and the doctors want me to use c-pap, too. I've been fighting it because I don't believe I have apnea. I'm a chronic insomniac and had 6 sleep studies over a period of years during which I slept a total of 3 hours. Now I have atrial fibrillations my docs say that using c-pap with oxygen will control(?) that. I don't believe it. The apparatus scares the heck out of me and I am a side-sleeper. Any side-sleeper comments?
If Mask Being Used, What Type? (e.g., ResMed Activa Nasal Mask)
Not yet, I'm still trying to get my nerve up. They fitted me wth on ethat c0vers nose and mouth and I'm afraid of the darn thing.
I have had a hard time getting used to my mask and the air leakage. I also have trouble with it leaking especially because it's set at 17. During my sleep study, I stopped breathing for 71 seconds. I have Severe Sleep Apnea. I had an average of 40 sleep apneas an hour. I've been having insomnia, too. I take sleeping meds to help me. They recommend sleeping on your side if you don't use the CPAP machine. They have you sleep on your back during the Sleep Study. I went there very tired and brought some beer (approved by the doctor). I drank one beer before bedtime. I slept the first 3 hours and took the mask off. I told them I didn't want to put the mask back on unless I can drink some more beer. They let me and I slept the rest of the night from 3:30 AM-7:30 AM. That's how they got my number up to 17.

The only way I slept at the sleep study was drinking some beer and going very tired - not sleeping more than a few hours the night before. I woke up at 3:30 and didn't want to put the mask back on and then drank another beer and didn't wake up until 7:30 at which time they told me my setting was at 17. I think it was higher than normal because they had me sleeping on my back and that's not normal for me.
