Based on your description, it's extremely likely that both your husband and son have sleep apnea, perhaps severe sleep apnea. for your son who has health insurance, he should see a sleep specialist if there's one in your area, or if not, a pulmonologist, and go for an overnight sleep study. if your husband doesn't have insurance, maybe he should ask the same doctors for a home test --- those cost a couple of hundred dollars. he can also go out of pocket for a good cpap machine for ~$400. i know it adds up quickly, but you could be saving him years of his life. untreated sleep apnea increases risk of diabetes, stroke, heart disease, hypertension and death. you should ask your husband's sister to join the site --- this kind of stuff is very likely genetic.
