Sore tongue

I am in a sleep study group for sleep apnea through the VA.  They furnished a ResMed Auto II cpap machine for me.  I awake at night and feel like my outer cheeks are a vacuum that pulls parts of the sides of my tongue into gaps remaining from some extracted teeth.  The sides of my tongue become very sore, and when I open my mouth, the small parts on the side of my tongue are wedged into the gaps and hard to pull out.  Anyone else have this happen?  What to do about it?

Would love to read some advice about this too. Since my bite is off, my tongue seems to slide also and I awaken actually biting my tongue. Have shown my dentist the bite marks on the side of my tongue and he suggested a dental device similar to the one worn by people who grind their teeth. I am planning on talking with my pulmonologist about this on my next visit.
Personally, I feel it would be hard to adjust to having a device in my mouth along with a full face mask.

I was thinking that the air from the cpap going thru the nose, past the throat on the way to the lungs, might be acting like a pitot tube on an airplane, and causing a vacuum in the mouth...Hopefully we will get some input here...
