For some it may take several weeks to adjust to sleeping with a mask strapped to your face. For others it is only a few days.
Give yourself sometime to get used to it. Try using it some while awake. Read, watch TV, or just relax. Make sure your mask isn't so tight that it is causing discomfort.
Are you using your ramp? Many of us find it is beneficial in the beginning and after a while stop using it. I know I used my ramp feature for awhile in the beginning.
I had my sleep study on June 6...Within 2 weeks I got a call from the Home care company that was going to supply my machine...I laughed when I told them that I did not even get the results yet!! So she told me that I had "severe" sleep apnea with Hypopnea index of 33.....I got my results when I went to my nutritionist. She made me a copy.....
So I got my machine by mid june,,, The first night I thought would be much worse than it was.....I have adapted pretty quickly... I still have not gone to a Pulmonologist...I figure I will give it a few months and see how things go before I make an appointment.
It seems to be working ok..I do not fall asleep at work anymore!!! (except at really, REALLY boring meetings ..lol)
My wife is very concerned. She is convinced that I am going to die while I am asleep. Can that happen, or has it ever happened? I recently saw my doctor and she is scheduling a sleep study for me. It seems that sleep apnea may be a problem for me, and it may be the reason I have high blood pressure as well. I came across this website, and I appreciate all the great info. Hopefully I can find some answers so my wife can sleep at night instead of sitting over me worrying.
