I was diagnosed with Sleep Apnea about 10 years ago, but always had it. Even as a young thin kid, no one wanted to sleep in the same room with me. I was diagnosed with type II diabetes around 7 years ago.
I was diagnosed with T2 in 2007. A couple years later I volunteered for a health study and was told I had mild to moderate sleep apnea. My GPs response was that I must have known and should just live with it and lose weight. More recently my husband insisted I follow up as I was snoring more and stopped breathing often. Took 6 months to get into hospital for a sleep study (I live in regional Australia) and was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea and told to get on CPAP. Have been renting equipment and trying various masks since Dec. Sleep doc was not impressed with results and put me in for a second study. No matter how much the pressure was increased nothing would overcome the blockage if I was on my back. Despite problems continuing with CPAP I have felt better when using it but have discovered that I have been gaining weight. My allergies and chronic sinusitis are better, perhaps because of heated tubing, filtered air and humidifier .
