I just started CPAP therapy a week ago and I'm still very tired; more so than usual. Is this a normal response when starting? With my mask on I've actually slept longer than without it. I've read different articles about how soon other people have felt better; some 2 weeks, some 2 months. How long did you start feeling better?

That depends on how much sleep debt, and healing your body needs to make up. It is different for everyone. Don't give up it will come.

I would suggest you get your smart card data off your machine, either from your doctor or buying the software and card reader yourself. then you can understand whether you're being treated with cpap, but not being treated effectively . . .your profile says you have the M Series -- I'm hoping it's the M Series Pro that has a smart card in that back that records efficacy/compliance data?

Yes, it does have a smart card....the pro series. I go back to my doctor in early August to get the card read.

that's good that you have that kind of sophisticated machine. but really you need to take advantage of it by accessing how many apnea/hypopnea events you're having, whether your leak rate is acceptable, etc. August is awhile to wait to have a good night's sleep. You might consider buying the Respironics software-card reader bundle

I just got my CPAP June 10th, so I'm a newbie too.

I've found that I'm having adjustment problems -- the machine, the settings, the right mask, etc., etc. Almost everyone does, I've learned. That said, I have also had some good night's of sleep. Not enough, but at least I realize there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Everything I've read notes that if one has a big sleep debt -- and I do: severe apnea for over a decade -- it takes a while. The reason: One must begin by "paying off" the debt.

I've learned from others on this board -- and Mike has made this point very well  -- how useful and important it is to get reliable information on how many apnea/hypopnea events you're having every night. I'm seeing my doctor and the tech tomorrow to learn how to do this. I learned about that from this board, for which I am grateful.

There's lots to learn and there's a learning curve. You've started moving up the curve. Keep moving!

                  Information is the key , If you dont know, your options are limited.It is a

process getting used to pap ,and finding the right stuff for you but it is worth it.
