I've been pretty depressed lately and not sleeping well.  Fragmented, light sleep.  Part of the problem is my meds I think (opiates for chronic pain) and my dog suddenly starts barking like crazy several times in the middle of the night.  I get up to quiet the dog and get a drink and sometimes forget to turn the machine back on though I put the mask on (I'm so accustomed to the pressure I don't notice) or if the dog wakes me up at six I take my mask off and if I'm not quite ready to get up I leave it off and try to convince Sky (K-9) to lay there with me for a while.  Also I spend most of the day on the couch dozing without my machine.  It would be easy to lay in the bedroom and use the machine, but I have become so lethagic and apathetic that I don't care and I'm sure it's a vicious cycle.  I'll make a- no- not an effort- I will start being more compliant with my machine use.

I don't know why I've gotten so depressed, , but it's lasted several months.  Of course I know  some of the obvious factors- bad sleep and machine  usage.  I had a check up and all was well.

I think I'll have to start putting the dog back in his kennel at night so he doesn't play guard dog and wake me up.  And again, the obvious things.

I'm going to Alabama Friday for my Mom's 85th birthday.  Thats going to be somewhat tricky as to carry ons.  I had surgery last Wednesday to replace the battery on the Deep Brain Stimulator and I'm not supposed to lift more than three lbs.  Of course my suitcase rolls, and I won't need my humidifier in Mobile.  I figure I can put my meds and a book in the exta space in the CPAP bag.

Thanks, folks.

Aw, sorry to read this Mary - last I heard you were doing so well.  Glad to hear you're on a mission to make sure you use your machine on all sleeps, so hope that makes a big difference to you.  If not, get straight back to the doc as depression's a real enemy!  Do you think it had anything to do with waiting for the surgery you just had?  Hope your next update is good, and sending positive vibes to you across the pond....

Mary, you know its a long road with lots of twists and turns. I used to have a similar problem with my 18 year old Jack Russell cross Fox Terrier, where I would slepp with him to make sure he was warm in winter and cool in summer, but he kept waking me snoring and wanting to go to the toilet. Bad sleep hygiene I know now. I decided my sleep was more important than his (selfish I know), he still sleeps inside but can go in and out when he wants and I get some sleep and we are both happy. I know you have other issues as well like the meds but just try to work on one thing at a time, I also thought you were going well for a while there.

"...you know its a long road with lots of twists and turns."

Kath and Terry, thanks for your replies.  I was doing very well for a while, Terry, but my depression has been very hard to treat.  I expect the road will turn back  my way, or I'll get back on it soon.

You will Mary

Mary,

I know I feel better when I use my C Pap so please try to use your ASV more, even in the daytime. I hope the trip was enjoyable.

Well, I'm back on the ASV 100% of sleep time and actually I am feeling better.  My trip to Mobile went OK (my Mom's 85th birthday). I started my first morning there crying (depression,  homesick), but it got better from there.  I left a day early- Issac was bearing down on the Gulf Coast and I didn't want to get stuck in Mobile.  I had brought extra meds, but forgot to put  my pain pills for nighttime in the box so I was running out of  those meds.  There was another factor- I had my battery for my deep brain stimulator   changed on the 15th and the wound was looking very angry.  I saw the doctor yesterday and it may be a bad case of cellulitis (cross your fingers).  If it's infected they'll have to take the battery out and move the pocket, in any case it's pretty serious, as the leads from the battery go deep into my brain. Sorry to go so far off topic.

Good to hear  you had a nice trip, and especially that you're feeling better.  Using your machine 100% of the time is actually the advice you would have given out to others Mary, but sometimes we need to hear our own words from others :D

Typical of life, that as one thing improves we get different challenges to cope with, so hope all goes well regarding the latest problem.

Mary glad to hear you are using the ASV 100% of your sleeping time. We know what to do it just easy to give in and sleep some without it even thought I always feel worst when I do.

Good luck with your battery I will send you a message.

Take care.

Hi Mary, Lifes stresses make sleep routines not so routine . Hope you get fixed up and back on pap asap. Good Sleep,Chris

My doctor (psych) is working very hard with me to stem this depression. I am able to wear the mask again all night now.  I still have days where I sleep all day  (my provigil is ineffective),but these are becoming less severe.

Hope everyone is well.

Off topic I recently I had an internal battery changed and while out of town (should have gone to an urgent care) developed a really bad case of cellulitis and almost lost my battery if infection had developed.

Take care of yourselves.

Mary, there all small steps in the right direction

Mary,

A few years ago I started taking OmegaBrite. My reason for taking it was to avoid taking statin drugs. The result was astounding. Even my doctor was -- is -- impressed.

HOWEVER, a friend whose brother is a psychiatrist told me that he has practically all of his patients on OmegaBrite because it makes a substantial difference in mood disorders. Indeed, my friend, who has certain mental health "issues" is on a high dosag; it makes a big, big difference for her.

Here is a link to some of the testimonials: http://omegabrite.com/why/success_stories.html

Here is the link to more about the product itself: http://omegabrite.com/index.html

Of course, go to the home page and click around to read more about OmegaBrite.

Fair warning: the product is expensive. My friend and I go in on a big order to bring down the per box cost. She takes a considerably higher dosage than I take because she has mental health problems which, fortunately, I don't have. No matter its cost: we both consider it really worthwhile.
