I'm struggling myself to get this under control.  how many others here are dealing with diabetes or pre-diabetes, and should we dedicate a section of the site to the topic?

Type II, Insulin dependent...on oral meds and Humalog and Lantus...not fun!
I have seen all the replies and thought this was a good question to reply to. Type 1 since age 15 in 1979. I probably had OSA since then but was not diagnosed until 2003 when I was going through respiratory therapy school and realized that I had the condition we were learning about. After being treated with cpap I was able to 1) sleep through the night without getting up to use bathroom for first time in 25 years, and 2) better albe to control my blood sugar levels which had been spiking overnight for years unexplainedly. I now know as an RPSGT/RRT that when I had untreated OSA my body was reacting to the apneas by going into overdrive while I slept and causing swings in hormones and stress levels that affected my blood sugar levels. After starting cpap therapy I was able to wake up at an acceptable level. Diabetes and OSA are very highly related conditons and working in a sleep lab I see a very high percentage of our patients also have not only Type 2, but heart disease too.
I have prediabetes my A1c is 6.6, I have high levels of insulin production the only thing that keeps me from being full fledged dye in the wool diabetic is my finger stick blood sugars remain less than 100mg/dl fasting and under 200mg/dl random. This has been going on at least five years. I have had OBS and CSA since 1995.
I've been diagnosed as "pre-diabetic", but don't understand exactly how this affects me. I'm overweight and have apnea. Other than that I'm relatively healthy - bl;ood pressure and cholesterol ok.
Type II diagnosed 10 years ago. Pills plus 2 insulins (slow and fast acting). Nerve damage and problem with leg sores. Been on APAP for 7 years.
Three years ago I was diagnosed with sleep apnea and during the same year was told I was pre-diabetic or glucose intolerant. Isn't there is an issue of weight gain that goes along with sleep apnea too? Currently taking 1/2 pill daily of metformin and limiting carbs, with good control. A1c is around 6.5. I don't quite understand how the apnea affects so many things, I was really surprised, but it answered a lot of questions about my health. I'm 59.
Years ago I used to have these weakness spells...usually at work during a crunch. Doc dismissed it as Hypoglycemia....except it didn't respond the way it should, etc.

Otherwise, my fasting glucose had always been fine (according to my doctors, I never saw the numbers). Couple years ago I got the dx of Sleep Apnea...and have been compliant. Though it hasn't helped the problems that led me here, and old sleep issues came back to haunt me.

Now the last two physicals....I'm pre-diabetes.

Doc says no way can I have Hypoglycemia, especially since it doesn't respond to taking sugar...but wouldn't stay in the room to discuss what it might be instead.

I knew the weakness was triggered by anger...so somebody suggested it might be cataplexy, and then I heard somebody say that their cataplexy is also triggered by stress. Wonder if I find that to be true...can I have my old job back?

Meanwhile, I'm waiting for an upcoming PSG/MSLT....
I have been diagnosed with pre-diabetes but I am of the firm belief that once the BiPap helps to get my Fibromyalgia under control then I'll be able to exercise and lose weight and rid myself of the pre-diabetes. :o)
Type II diabetes diagnosed July, 2010.
Add another vote for type 2 diabetes and OSA. I was diagnosed with diabetes several months before OBA, was asked several times when I had to go to the ER if I was diabetic, judging from those responses and past symptoms I was probably diabetic for several years prior to my diagnoses.
pre diabetic due to neurological disorder for which I've been progressively loosing muscles (can't do any physical activity to avoid further muscle damage)...no muscles...no way to burn sugar to get rid of. Catch 22. Only option available is to try to control by diet which is increasingly difficult.
Diagnosed with pre-diabetes this summer at the same time I received the sleep apnea diagnosis. Tried metformin-made me very sick. Going to WW and losing wt. Believe it will go away with wt loss.
