The best way to clean and dry you cpap tubing, mask . And has ant body use or seen the Hurrcane dryer?

What are some tips in cleaning your equipment and drying it. I use a mild soap hand wash and i dry all my equipment in my Hurracane dryer, ( not the unit ).

Ok, Forget everything I just said then. On the VPAP it is called Smartstart. It has a dual purpose of starting therapy when putting the mask on and taking a breath or turning it off when the mask is removed. Try turning the Smartstart off and see if that will let your machine keep running.
Don't have SmartStart enabled. I'm worried about messing up my numbers for the Doc. My last machine ran for a bit after I turned it off, not sure if this one does, but I think it does, just had it for two days. Think I'll stick to air dry
for my tubing, which is the only thing hard to dry. Or maybe a hairdryer set on low.
Thanks.

Is that 'The' Kevin Cooper, who I've just bought the CMS50D+ Pulse Oximeter from? My friend in Seattle sent me it as I couldn't see if you delivered to the UK. If it's you, I might be picking your brains. I used it for 1 night, but couldn't get the info uploaded (no doubt I'll have done something wrong lol). Nice little gadget though when I get it working properly.

Hi Kath,
Yup that is me. Shoot me an email with what your problem is and I will be happy to walk you through it. You may also want to try going to my site and reading the CMS-50D Plus Download Help. I typed out step by step instructions on how to get these things downloaded.

Ha Ha, you just can't go anywhere can you Kevin? lol. I've sussed how to work it, just not how to get the recorded info uploaded. That's great to hear about the instructions on your website (the ones that came with it are a bit small for my bad eyes). I'll use it again tonight and try with your website's instructions, but I know where to find you if I'm stuck thanks.

No problem. I also have the manufacturers instructions (for what they are worth) on there so you can enlarge them.
Okay don't be shocked when I let you in on a little secret -- as a kid growing up in the late 50's / early 60's (born in 1954) we ate a fair share of dirt. There were 6 of us kids and a small three bedroom home. It was so nice when the weather was decent that we could play outside -- more than once I can remember "digging to China", making mud pies (and wondering why they didn't taste like my mom's chocolate pie LOL), and other assorted outdoor fun. I have often wondered if that isn't why kids are more prone to sickness as many do not play outside and heaven forbid if they got a little dirt in their mouths!!

I don't know when I cleaned anything on my machine, including the hose and mask. It has to have been at least three months ago or longer. I still am maintaining a good seal -- the whole objective in my mind.

I can remember when I was in college (17 or 18 years ago) I took a CPR class. I had the class previously and knew that they wiped "Annie" down with alcohol wipes and had never had a problem. They had switched to using a mild bleach solution as it was suppose to be more sanitary. When my turn came, the instructor wiped "Annie" down and I started the process only to have the bleach fumes create an awful asthma attack. Learned my lesson then and there.

I feel most germs around the home can be safely sent packing with good old soap and hot water. Just my own opinion, mind you.
We still tell our "kids" when they fall down to rub a little dirt in it ! Yes, some germs are good some not so good. I think just giving your equipment a good cleaning once a month should be fine, right? My DME guy said to rinse and hang the tubing over the shower rod to air dry. Should there be more to it?

As far as the hose goes, I have been using the same one for three years without cleaning it.

I just read this thread and shined a light down the hose - it looks as clean as a whistle.

The rubber connectors do pick up some body oils on the outside where the hands touch them to connect them to the machine and mask. I use a wipe on them every few months.

I think washing my hose would tend to introduce contaminants to the inside that otherwise would not be there.

But suit yourself.
Kevin - Just to say thank you for your fantastic easy-to-understand instructions on your website. Glad I came across you on here, as I'd not noticed the valuable info you have on your site. Now just need to find out why my oxygen levels are dropping so I reckon a Dr's appointment is in order. Keep up the good work and I'll certainly recommend you :-)

not sure what a hurricane dryer is but can dry the inside of the tubing by reconnecting to the CPAP and running it (without humididty filled if you have a humidifier) for 15-20 mins.
YES!!   You absolutely MUST clean the tubing, face mask/nose parts and, if you use one, the humidifier and its tubing.  If you don't every morning you WILL get bronchitis.  I used to be a little lazy at this daily cleaning and contracted bronchitis 3 times!
